CLARA'S P.O.V
Dear Mitch,
I never knew if this was the right option, writing to you. I mean, the last time I saw you was...two or so years ago? But I must. You're always on my mind, and I don't even think it's healthy how much I miss you. It's even worse, I have a loving boyfriend now, but every time he kisses me or we hold hands, I just get a flashback of us doing same.
The last time I saw you, we were reading the paper. Wasn't it funny, how we exchanged 'I Love You's' back and forth. Do you actually think we meant it?
I knew I did. I don't know if you did. I like to imagine that every single 'I Love You' or 'You're Amazing' were true and full of meaning. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your career. I've seen your videos around, you're just as funny as I remember. Can't loose your charm.
I'm still working at the little cafe were we met, when you came to the English Netherlands. We made conversation, and I remember how you told me you were too lazy to learn a new language, so you came to this little part of the country.
I also remember how that lovely other boy came in and sat next to you. I must admit, he looks like a kid, and sort of acted like one. I watched a Live stream of him and a boy named Sky or Adam.
His name was Jason I believe, and he really was the man. Remember how I called him cute and your eyes widened and your mouth hung open, I can't believe nobody took a picture.
Anyways, I must go now. I would put something near 'It was great to talk to you.' But, I didn't actually talk to you, did I? I just wrote on paper.
Bye Mitch, Carla.
I put my pen down, and folded the letter in half. A tear came down along my nose, but I quickly wiped it away, gently picking up the envelope beside me and placing the letter in side it.
I opened the top drawer of the many that sat on the desk, searching for the sellotape, and taking a tiny piece, sealing the letter safely inside.
The chair was noiseless as I pushed it back to stand up. The door opened and my-now boyfriend was in the doorway.
''Dinner.'' He told me before closing it and leaving. I tucked the letter inside my jacket, before standing up and heading downstairs.
''How was work?'' I asked him, sitting in on of the chairs that was around the blue round table.
''It was good. How was work for you?'' He got two plates of spaggethi and set one down in front of me, before taking a seat for himself.
''Boring. Spilled coffee on some blonde woman who proceeded to threaten to call my lawyer.'' I pushed my food around, thinking of the time Mitch and I went to a restraunt and made a Lady And The Trap cover. I smiled at the memory.
''Them, call me? I would just slap them.'' He laughed. I laughed softly along, before I saw him stand up and head towards the sink.
''Anything else?'' He took his seat again. I tapped my chin lightly.
''Sophie invited us to her wedding.'' I stood up and went to the coffee table, picking up the invitation and giving it to him.
I picked my plate up and turned the taps on, pretending I had finished the meal and was washing, but instead put it in the fridge.
''That's good of them.'' He gave me a peck on the cheek and I remembered of how Mitch would do that when I was cooking or even just watching T.V.
''I need to go to deliver a thank-you to my boss who gave me Saturday off.'' I lied. I did have that letter, but I wasn't just posting that.
''Need me to come?'' He stood up.
''No, you need to finish the reports.'' I went into our room, grabbing my coat and making sure I had both letters in the pocket.
''OK, get us some milk on your way?'' He went through his wallet and handed me some money. I opened my mouth to protest, to say I could use my own. But instead, I thought of the times I would go shopping with Mitch and he would always make me use his money.
I only managed to shake my head. He shrugged, before putting his brown leather wallet back into his jean pocket, before giving me a quick kiss and going into his study.
I opened the door and the wind instantly directed the snow into my face. As I proceeded to walk forward, the snow crunching under my shoes, I thought of the moment when Mitch and I had made a giant snowman and a neighbours dog had jumped straight through it.
I chuckled and shook my head, smiling as I thought about how much fun that day had been.
FLASHBACK
''It will be fun!'' Mitch took my hand as I sighed.
''Fine. We'll go build a snowman.'' I gave up protesting that he had to upload a video. He cheered, pulling his shoes on and handing me my coat and gloves.
''Come on!'' He opened the glass doors and instantly starting gathering up snow. I laughed as he tripped and face-planted into the tiny snowball he had managed to make.
I quickly laced up my boots and ran outside, my scarf flying behind me.
''I think a dog peed in this snow.'' Mitch stood up and spat snow everywhere, rubbing his face with the sleeve of his checked shirt.
''Come on, we don't own a d-'' I was cut off by a barking running through the back garden and the snowball I had been previously pushing around while Mitch was laying on the ground was destroyed in seconds.
''Who said we needed to own the dog?'' Mitch laughed.
PRESENT
As I opened the door to the post office, the heat instantly took over and the bell chimed.
''Hello, we were just about to close up. What do you need?'' The lady behind the counter asked. I walked towards her and placed the two letters down.
''And a bottle of milk.'' I said. She nodded, checking the size of the envelopes before dropping them into a bag.
As she went to the fridges behind her, I looked at the card shelf beside me.
''Is that everything?'' She asked, taking a bag from under the counter. I quickly picked up a 'Have A Happy Marriage' card and matching blue case, putting them on the counter.
She put the prices together and overall it costed a tenner. I pulled a new, crisp one out of my pocket and she handed me the bag.
''Have a lovely evening.'' I told her, holding the plastic bag securely and opening the door, the little bell chiming as I left.
On the way back to the house, I thought of how Mitch and I would always look for a new path, a new discovery or a secret passage back home.
But I can't find another path right now, a new discovery or a secret passage, because it will tempt me to go to the airport and find Mitch.
Which just isn't possible.
NOTES: BOOM! BOOK! Every chapter will have a letter at the start, Clara writing to Mitch in her P.O.V then Mitch doing the same OR them reading the letters. So, goodbye for now, Jazbears
