Kara sat at the desk in the small office of the condo  in the Colorado Rockies that she was renting for the next two weeks, Her hazel eyes staring blankly at the screen of her laptop in disbelief. Her publisher had called over an hour ago & told her that they had at least 100 on-line requests for signed copies of her very first book. She had immediately went to the website to see for herself.
How was this possible? She asked herself, as she read the comments & requests from people who wanted her book!! This was the first time she would be doing any kind of book signing and she was super nervous.
The doorbell jarred Kara from her trance like state.  That had to be Andrew Winters, he was her current manager and his father owned the company that published Kara's book.  He said he wanted her to pre-sign a bunch of books to send out via online requests.  The signed copies would be sold for more money.  He said that it would be great practice for Thursday's actual book signing in Denver.
Andrew Winters was physically attractive to Kara with his jet black hair, deep green eyes, olive skin, broad shoulders & 6"2' frame, but as soon as he opened his mouth she wanted to go shower with bleach.  He was the sleazy, hit on his clients, push the boundaries, can't get in trouble, little rich boy who works for daddy kind of guy. Kara disliked him immensely.
Andrew winked at her the moment that she opened the door, "Yokatta" she thought & instantly broke into a smile as she realized that she had just thought "yucky" in Japanese.
Andrew grinned thinking that her smile was for him, stupid schmuck thought everything was about him.
Kara promptly stepped out onto the porch & pulled the door closed behind her.  "Oh not going to invite me in, huh?" Andrew asked there was actual shock in his voice.  "No, Mr. Winters.  As I said on the phone I don't like doing business where I sleep." Kara said politely with a fake smile in place.
"Please Kara, call me Andrew." He responded his eyes were giving her the once over, his pouty lips curving into a seductive smile.
"No thank you Mr.Winters, I'd prefer to keep it professional.  You said you were bringing me a bunch of books to pre-sign?" She answered folding her arms over her ample chest which seemed to be Mr. Winters real point of interest.
"In the back of my car, I'll take them inside for you." He stated as he headed down the porch steps.  "I'm sure that if you will just bring them up onto the porch I can get them inside, thank you Mr. Winters."
Andrew shook his head as he opened the trunk to retrieve the books  "As you wish, Ms Peck." He mumbled under his breath. He grabbed a box and packed it to the porch, he sat the box at Kara's feet. "There's 50 in this box, once they're signed I'll give you another 50 & that should be close enough to what we need for our online requests."
"Thank you Mr. Winters.  I appreciate you bringing the books to me. I'm sure I can have those done by this evening. I can do the other half tomorrow if you want to bring them to me."  Kara said as she looked at the box by her feet.  "I'll just give you all 100 now if you think you can have them all done by tomorrow afternoon.  I have the second box right there." Andrew said motioning towards the car
" I can have them done, I'll sign them tonight." She stated, Kara half smiled as he darted off the porch and back to the trunk.  Hopefully after this he would leave her alone for a day.
Andrew stacked the second box on top of the first with a thud. "Well that's 100 copies of your book, once you get them all signed give me a call, I'll come pick them up & take you to dinner to celebrate."  "I'm afraid I won't be going to dinner with you. I have way to much work to get done while I'm here. Speaking of which, I should get back to it." She pointed toward the door "You gotta eat, Kara. It's just dinner." Andrew said.  He obviously wasn't understanding that she wasn't interested.
"No thank you Mr. Winters. I don't think that would be a good idea.  I do appreciate the offer but I'm going to decline. Now I've gotta get started on these books so that I can get back to writing the next one." She said giving the boxes a tap with her toe.
"Okay Ms Peck, I'll let you get to it then. I'll expect a call when the books are finished." He then turned & walked to his car shaking his head.
