Simon looked down at the ground. It’s been a year since he broke up with Vik. He thought he would’ve been immune to the pain, but he wasn’t. He still had a constant reminder that Vik had left him. And that reminder was the constant pain in his heart. Simon has tried moving on. He would go on a date with some bloke time to time, and sometimes have a second date with the same bloke. But it wasn’t the same. Vik was his whole world. Vik didn’t think so though. He left him for some Aussie.
Simon then thought about his best friend Josh. There was no denying that Josh was attractive. And there was no denying that Simon has had one or two fantasy between the two of them. Okay, Simon thought. Maybe I do have a bit of a crush on Josh, but I doubt that he’s into men.
“Hey Simon, are you alright? You’ve been out on the patio for a little over 30 minutes now.” It was Josh. It made Simon feel a bit better knowing that Josh cares.
“Hey Josh,” Simon said. “What happens if a guy, who’s into men, had a crush on guy who was straight?” Simon knew how obvious it sounded, but he didn’t care. If he was about to have his heart broken again, it better be now.
Josh chuckled with a hint playfulness in his eyes. Josh could be in the best mood at any given time. It was one of the things that Simon loved, and admired about him.
“Well I dunno, mayb-” But Josh never got to finish his sentence.
“Simon? Hello?” A voice said. Simon’s eyes widen.
“V-Vik?!” Simon saw a silhouette of a small figure. Simon rushed towards Vik. Only to be stopped by the mysterious veil that divided them. “Vik!? Wha-What’s going on?!”
“Simon! Simon are you here?” He heard Vik sniff. “I guess not.” Vik started to leave.
Simon started to cry. “Vik!” He sobbed. He tried getting through the veil. “Vik, please come back.”
The veil started to wrap around Simon, but he didn’t care. He cried more.
“Josh!? Josh where are you?!” Simon wailed, but that made the veil tighten around him.
He heard the sound of laughter. It was Josh and Vik. The scenery had changed, and Simon was looking at his two favourite people at the beach.
Josh looked lovingly at Vik. “I’m so proud to call you my husband.”
Simon look terrified. Y-your what?! He thought.
Vik chuckled, taking hold of Josh’s hand, intertwining their fingers. “I can’t believe we’ve been married for one year already.”
Josh kissed the side of Vik’s head. “The best year of my life,” Josh said, looking at Vik like he was the only thing in the world.
Simon sobbed harder. “Josh! I’m right here! Please! Look over!” But it seeks that it was only Simon who could hear his own voice.
The veil covered Simon completely. He couldn’t see, feel, or hear anything. Simon was only left with his thoughts.
All of a sudden Simon’s eyes flew open. He was covered in sweat and there were tears on his face. He looked around to find himself on his bed.
He sighed in relief, it was just a nightmare.
“Babe, are you up?” Simon heard his boyfriend say. This made him smile fondly.
“Yep!” Simon got up quickly and headed over to the kitchen.
He wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, and kissed his back.
“Another nightmare?” His boyfriend asked with care in his voice.
Simon nodded against his boyfriend’s back.
His boyfriend swooped around and wrapped his arms around Simon’s waist. Simon’s arms looped around his boyfriend’s neck.
“Just know that I’m always here for you and that I love you, Simon Minter.” And he gave Simon a quick peck on the cheek.
“And I love you, Joshua Bradley.”
