Unto Darkness

Chapter 2

             Clair stared absently at the window of the car,unseeing,but aware that they are passing through the beautiful scenery that as all too familiar to her.

''Tell me why are we going to London, again?''Nigel's voice dragged her out of her reverie.She glaced at her brother and cousin.And just listened to their conversation.

Graham rolled his eyes at his cousin.''Because we are going to meet someone there.''He drawled.''And please don't asked again,you have asked that same question in the house,before the we left,and in the car for the tenth time.''

''Your such a bore to talk you know.''He wave a hand a gesture of dismissal.

''Do I really look I care,Nigel?''He opened his mouth to continue but closed it,and turned to her sister and smiled solemnly at her.''I see your back to earth.Oh,don't give me that look.''He scowled at her.

             Clair laugh quietly at his expression and shrugged.''What,I'm just quit confused at your meaning.'' Her brother snorted.''what do you mean you don't know?You look like you have gone to another planet,when you stared..........''And the twins continued there playful banter.Trying to forget who they are going to meet eventualy.

           And after their banter the car had fallen silent,all thinking the same thing,all remembered what happened yesterday.After they received the letter they found their selves in the inside the manor's large library, arguing.And still they ended up packing and traveling to London.

''Are you all alright?''Mr.Smith's voice broke the silence in car.All the three of them looked at their aging driver.His family had served them for generations and still served.She could never think of a person so loyal to them,maybe other than Mrs.Rose.She gave the old man her  soothing smile.''Were all alright Mr.Smith,no need to fret.''
           
''Oh,how many do I have to tell all of you to call me Dan.Mr.Smith is so formal.''

''Hey,how I'am part of this?It's not fair!''Nigel cried in protest.

''As if you didn't call Mr.Smith.''Graham snorted beside her.Nigel glared at him in annoyance.''Oh,shut up Graham.''

             Clair smiled at their antics,she turned and stared at the window again,lost in her own thoughts.Unknown to her that so was the others.And so continued their trip in silence.

Somewhere
in Northern Wales

             A man rose from his large king-size bed and stretched his aching muscles.He walked towards the heavy draped window and draw open the drapes.He watched as the birds flew towards a dead tree nearby,they tweeted happily,he envied them for their happiness,and most of all their freedom.

'Mmmm'

             The moan draw him out of his musing.He turned back and stared at the stirring woman on his bed.The woman open her luminous green eyes.
She surveyed the room with a frown in her beautiful face,and when she located him,she gave him a smile that tells him that she wants him back to back bed.''Come back to bed.''She said in her low and husky voice.

             And when he didn't comply,she gave a small frown.''What's the matter Gavin?''

''I need to go to London Mary.'He told her softly.

''When?''

He gave her a grave smile.''Today.I leave today.''

''And thus that mean we are over.''Its not a question but she said it anyway.She knew that she was only here to warm the bed of the man before her,that there were no deeper meaning.But that thus not mean it sweetened the bitter reality of it.

          She studied the man before her.He was beautiful his features so youthful and yet weary,his blond hair in disarray that gave him the false appearance of being carefree,his lean body glowed in the morning light,his skin is fair unlike the others who's tanned.But what caught her curiosity is his grey eyes,so vibrant yet behind the vibrance is sadness so deep that his very soul is scarred because of it.

          She slowly rose from the large bed she had warmed for so many nights now.Clutching the covers to her breast she walked towards where her clothing lay on the floor.As she dressed she could feel his eyes on her,but it was it,he is just watching,unlike the other night's that his stare bore lust.But she had already suspected much for,for days now he had gone more distant than he already is.

             And now one of her worst fears became true;she has to leave again,but she already done that many times before,so why thus it slightly hurt.After she dressed she picked up her purse and walked towards him.He had now resumed his staring at the window,she knew he could her her footsteps but he didn't turn he just continued to look at  outside the window.And when she reached him,she clutched to his muscular arm and leaned forward and gave a kiss on the cheek.And silently whispered her farewell.

':Mr.Jones will drive you home.''

''I know as you always does.''She murmured,And left the room.

          Gavin Blackwood could hear the fading footsteps of Mary Simmons.He had glimpse disappointment in her green eyes,but he also knew that she had already anticipated it,as it always was,and will always be for her.She will always have to leave once she had warmed the man's bed enough.He watched as Mary approached the waiting car,she turned and look at him though the window for the last time before entering the car that will bring her home.

''Miss.Simmons is already escorted home.''His Butler announced at the door.''Your luggage is already prepared down stairs sir.Cook has already prepared breakfast for you and is only waiting.Is there anything you need?''

          He turned to his Butler.''No there is nothing I need.You are dismissed.''And looked outside.

''Your know staring outside will not do you good.''His butler stated.

''Leave me alone Joshua.''

''Oh,I will leave you alone alright.''And he heard door of his room closed.He let out sigh and walked towards his closet and chose what he will wear today.And while dressing his mind drifted to a distant past he didn't want to think about.And he knew that day that he had a very long way ahead.
