Funeral for Strangers

When we returned to the house, the smell was to much to bare.

Captain sighed as he removed the trash bag from the box, Murphy being the caring guy he is walked into the room and carefully placed the two guys into the bags.

Captain looked at the guys and bowed before placing another bag on top of their heads. "It's done, then he bowed his head" Captain said quietly "I didn't take you as the religious type" Murphy said lifting the bag onto his shoulder "I'm not but there's a time for everything" Captain said picking up the shovel.

They went out to the back yard while me and Ringo stayed behind, I took this time to read some of the documents that was still hanging on the Builtin board.

The disease was found to spread. through exposed  all bodily fluids. Not airborne or waterborne. Subjects may experience flu like symptoms, subjects can also adapt to its damaged nervous systems but is limited to basic physical activities, including standing up, balancing on two legs, walking, biting, grabbing, and crawling. Subject will energetically move towards sights, sounds, and smells it associated with living humans. Subjects will attempt to ingest living humans if physical contact is made.

"Subjects will attempt to ingest living humans if physical contact is made" I read aloud to make sure that's what it said. I felt my heart race as I kept staring at that last sentence.

"They were test subjects" I said to Ringo who was looking up at me without having a clue on what was going on.

When Captain and Murphy returned they both smelt like sweat and dirt. Ignoring the look on my face Murphy walked by and began to change his shirt.

"What's wrong?" He asked finally noticing my silence, he looked at me then to the paper, he began to walk really slow and cautious as if I was now contaminated "Steph? What do you have in your hand?" He asked calmly.

I shook my head and clutched the paper to my chest, tears began to fall from my face "Murphy this is awful, the whole thing" I said feeling my face getting red.

"I know, but Steph what is on that paper" he says now looking at me with worried eyes

"I don't wanna show you, I don't want you to see the awful things" I whisper to him, I could feel the stream of tears run down to the bottom of my neck while some manage to slide down my neck.

Murphy puts up his hands in defeat "okay, I won't ask to see if it's that bad."

We both stood in silence before captain walked in and sensed the tension "What's going on?" He asked standing in the doorway. At some point outside he must've taken his vest off.

"Nothing, Stephanie is just a little frightened." Murphy said looking at the crumpled up paper that still clung against my chest.

He wasn't lying, he didn't know about the paper and I was frightened, I decided that it was best for all of us if they never knew. So I folded up the paper and crammed it into my pocket.

"I think we should take turns of keeping watch" Captain says, Murphy nods his head, still looking at me with the same worried expression.

"Steph why don't you and captin sleep and I'll watch." Captain looked at him with a concerned expression "no that's okay Murphy, I'll take first watch" before Murphy could protest captin had already left the room.

Captain  (pov)
It was dark and cold, I thought it would be best if we limited our light usage. Murphy and Stephanie had fell asleep not to long ago. My turn had been over for quite some time but I didn't want to be left alone with Stephanie nor did I want either of them to be apart.

Murphy appeared to be an alright guy, caring for his sister like he did, apocalypse or not you didn't see brothers and sisters with that type of bond.

Stephanie on the other had gave me a vibe, she was pretty and from what I observed smart as well. I just couldn't shake the feeling that she was hiding something.

I sighed, I pushed the thought away, letting my mind wonder to the thoughts of my wife, the thoughts I didn't want.

I felt an angry wave of fire come over me as I remembered Miranda , how caring my wife was and how easy it could've been to tell her no.

I felt a tear come down, I forcefully wiped my face and started to focus.

I laid awake starring at the ceiling, Stephanie had fell asleep with Ringo by her side. I guess letting her have that dog was a good thing, at least I knew she would be somewhat safer.

Something was bothering her, whatever was on that paper had really messed with her and I couldn't help but want to know.

I climbed out of bed, my feet touched the hardwood floor and it let out a creak.

I looked over to Ringo who had begun to growl, I began to make hushing noises as I picked up the pants Stephanie had switched out of after continous arguing that she should sleep in something more comfortable.

I just began to pull the paper out when Captain came in

"Is it time to switch?" I asked throwing the pants down. He shakes his head and looks over to Stephanie then back to me "what are you doing?" His voice trying to cover into a whisper.

My mind raced as I looked for an answer, I didn't like to lie but whatever it is my sister is hiding from me clearly needed to be hid from Cap, something about him gave her this bad vibe which was starting to come along on me as well.

"Nothing, just making sure she had all her things, we planned on heading out right?" He nods and picks up the jeans and pulls out the paper.

The blood drained from my face as I realized what he was doing. After reading it he lays it down on the desk in the room. His face looked calm but his vibe seemed more angrier

He walked over to the bed and shook Stephanie awake. "Get up now" he says angrily, Stephanie did as told and got up. She looked over at me then to captin.

After realizing we weren't leaving and we weren't being attacked she looked over to me with an worried expression. "What's going on?" She says sadly

"Subjects will ingest living humans if physical contact is made" he says and her eyes grow wide.

"You were going to keep that information a secret?" He begins to breath heavily "you were going to keep the secret that MY WIFE was a test subject!" Stephanie just sat there as captain yelled, Ringo who was now frightened ran over to me.

I wasn't shocked, I wasn't upset but I was confused, why was keeping that a secret a big deal and captin getting angry at her didn't make it go away.

When he finally got done getting angry he took a look at me and then at Ringo but never took his eyes over to Stephanies directon "I'm sorry" he whispered "I know you didn't do it for intentional purposes but you have to understand, I just lost my wife"

She nodded and he walked out of the room, his sudden feeling of guilt shocked us both but neither one of us said anything.

"Let's get out of here" I say meekly, after more silence I walked out of the room and out to the back yard where the two bodies now laid.

"Why" I asked but the bodies said nothing, they just laid there in peaceful silence with all their secrets.

Author note :)
Hey guys first off I wanna say thank you for taking the time to read this and if you made it this far that means I'm doing something right. Anyways I know this chapter wasn't the greatest but I was actually toying around with the idea of doing other perspectives instead of just Stephanies, let's face it she gets kinda boring sometimes, also if you all don't mind to vote and comment that would be great. I really enjoy feedback. Well I'm gonna let you all get back to reading and going about your life so enjoy and nobody get bitten okay. I love you 💜~Owl
