"Hey, do you wanna go to the music store with me?" My roomate, a.k.a my brother Harvey asked. He finished washing the breakfast dishes and dried off his hands on a hand towel nearby.
I ran my fingers through my straight, long brown hair and sighed. "Sure. I've got nothing better to do. What do you need to get from there?"
Harvey slipped on a pair of shoes and kneeled down to tie them. "My buddy's birthday is this weekend and he's in a band. You remember Kaleb right? He used to live like two houses away from us?"
I nodded, remembering the rocker dude that always made loud rucous in his garage that the whole neighborhood could hear.
"Well I thought I would buy him a new guitar. I can make payments on it. I just don't know which one I want to get him yet. So I'll need someone else's opinion."
I grabbed my purse from the kitchen counter with my keys and wallet in it. "Are we taking your car or mine?"
"Let's take mine. My car is a lot cooler than yours." He smirked.
"Fuck off." I flipped him off and opened the door, not even keeping it open for him. He wasn't wrong though. Harvey drove a 2016 Aston Martin Vanquish. Don't ask me how he got it though. I just drive a simple 2011 Chevy Malibu.
We drove through the pretty town of Frankenmuth. I looked out the window at people taking down decorations and put up new ones. Frankenmuth was known for their pretty lights and their flowers throughout the town.
The car came to a stop in front of Zack's Music store and I waited until Harvey got out to open the door for me. One of the main things I loved about him was that he was such a gentlemen. Why can't more men be like him?
When we walked in it was pretty quiet. I knew this place didn't get a lot of business but I didn't think it was this bad. Besides Harvey and I, there were I think two other people in here.
"I'm gonna go look at some CD's." Harvey nodded his head and I left him to look at all the guitars.
I searched through a few racks of CD's but couldn't find anything that really interested me.
"May I help you with something?" A deep voiced asked from beside me. I looked over to see a tall, blonde guy with tattoos all down both of his arms. He was wearing a sleevless Marilyn Manson shirt and black skinny jeans with black converse.
"Um," I paused, looking up and down the rack of CD's, "I want to get a new CD, just don't know what to get... Any suggestions?"
He looked up and down the cd rack I was looking at at the moment. "You like hip hop/r&b?"
"Yes."
He held up a finger to tell me he'll be back in a minute. I looked around the store to find Harvey talking to another guy, their backs facing me. The guy he was talking to had a tattoo of a pair of wings on his neck. That probably hurt a lot.
The worker came back with a redish-orange cd with a guy with braids on it. "Who is this?" I wondered.
"You've never listened to Post Malone?" His mouth fell open a little in shock.
"No," I laughed a little.
"Trust me, he's good." He said. "Tell you what, I'll take four dollars off the cd so that if you don't like it, you won't feel like you wasted your money."
"Deal." He handed me the Post Malone cd and I followed him to the register towards the back. The total came up to $11.99 but he took the four dollars off it so it was now $7.99. "Thank you."
"Have a great day."
"You too." When I headed over to where Harvey still was, I saw the face that I thought I would never see again: Justin. He was holding up an electric guitar, showing Harvey the designs and talking about the switches. What do I do? Do I hide? Do I act like I don't remember him?
I didn't want to leave the store and make Harvey look around for me and worry so I snuck behind Harvey and sat on the bench, keeping my head down.
"Hey sis, what do you think of this one?" Harvey asked.
So much for keeping my head down, I looked up to see Harvey now holding the guitar that Justin just had, but he was still here, and he was now looking at me. He remembers.
"I like it." I gave him two thumbs up.
"I'll get this one then, Justin." Harvey made it seem like they knew each other.
Justin waved his hand, telling us to follow him to the back where the register was that I was just at. The guy who helped me was still back here.
"$499.00 dude." Justin's raspy voice said.
My eyes felt like they were gonna pop out of my head. $499? Is he serious? Where does Harvey even get that kind of money?
Harvey pulled out his wallet and handed Justin five one hundred dollar bills. "Um, I hope you know rent is due in two weeks."
My brother smiled and laughed, tilting his head back. "I've got it covered, Aurora. Chill."
I could feel Justin's eyes on me again and now he knows for sure who I am because Harvey just had to say my name. I'm not sure why, but I kind of wanted Justin to remember me.
"The guys are coming to my place to watch the game. You coming?" Harvey asked. When is he ever going to discuss things with me? I didn't know that his friends were coming over to OUR apartment.
Justin smiled, showing his perfectly straight, white teeth. His smile was beautiful. "Yeah man, I'll be over in an hour."
Harvey waved good bye and I followed him out of the store and to his car. He gently placed the guitar in the back seat and opened up the door for me before heading over to the drivers side and getting in.
"How do you know him?" I wondered.
"He used to be in Kaleb's band." He answered. "And we were in high school together. We graduated the same year."
That means Justin was probably twenty two because that's how old Harvey is. That's why I never saw Justin around before that party; he is a few years older than I am. When he was finishing his last year in high school, I was finishing my last year in middle school.
I'm eighteen years old now. I'm legal. I thought to myself. I want something serious, even if I am still young, but Justin doesn't seem like the serious type. He's only twenty two and he's hot as fuck. Girls are probably all over him. I don't even know why I'm thinking about him like this, I don't know him at all and Harvey would probably be pissed if I dated one of his friends.
"What are you thinking about, sis?" Harvey asked, breaking me away from my thoughts.
"Oh, um, nothing." I lied.
I'm just thinking about your hot ass friend, that's all.
