Chapter 3 (Lucas)

"For Christ sake Casey will you knock it off," I say to my sister a little more aggressively than I'd intended. I'm stuck in the back of my dad's car with my sister whilst she hums along to Justin Bieber on her Ipod and its really beginning to grate on my nerves.

Its almost a two hour drive to our new house in Moreton and being in such a close proximity for that length of time is making me beyond cranky.

Since returning home my parents have been concerned that I'm not coping well and so they made the decision to move out to the country in the hope that I will feel safer.

I can't tell them the real reason I've become a recluse and a miserable asshole, they would never understand.

I'm still struggling to make sense of it all myself. My heads a mess right now and being stuck out in the middle of nowhere sounds like heaven to me.

When we finally pull up outside our new home I can't get out of the car fast enough.

I decide to go for a walk and stretch my legs, its so peaceful here nothing but trees and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. The only sounds are the birds singing high up in the trees.

It's been a year since that fateful night and I'm still trying to come to terms with what I am.

Constantly being around people all the time is like locking an alcoholic in an off licence and telling him not to touch a drop. Its pure torture.

I've got better at controlling my urges though and if I have a really tough day then I just lock myself away in my room.

The alternative doesn't even bare thinking about.

I make my way back over to the car and start unloading my things.

"Lucas its barely light out are the glasses really necessary?" my mother asks.

"If I want to keep up my sexy image they are," I joke.

She laughs loudly and I smile fondly at her.

I've always had a good relationship with her but this is one thing that not even she can help me with.

What she doesn't realise is that I have to wear the sunglasses otherwise she would be freaking out right now over my red eyes.

I forgot to put my contacts in this morning, which is really careless on my part.

I wish more than anything that I could tell her what happened that night, but I know she wouldn't be able to handle it.

Just as I finish carrying the last of my boxes inside, I see a girl walking past. She's looking over at us and I can't help but notice how she slows down to get a good look.

She makes her way over and I'm literally blown away by how beautiful she is. She has her long blonde hair in a pony tail that hangs all the way down her back and her green eyes literally sparkle when she introduces herself.

She smells incredible and I don't just mean her perfume. Never before has anyone tested my self control like this girl. Everything about her appeals to me.

"Hi I'm Jess Jackson, so you guys just moved in huh?" she says with the sweetest voice.

I stare at her throat as she speaks and have to take a deep breath in order to get myself under control.

"I live just over there" she points in the direction of her house, i look over and I'm pleased to see just how close her house actually is. If her bedroom is at the back of the house then I've got the perfect view from my room. "So I guess you could say that I'm your neighbour" she continues, waking me from my little day dream.
