Why are we so afraid of problems today? Society nowadays can't seem to deal with real problems. Any time someone is sad, we do our best to make everyone happy as quickly as possible, even when this is not what we should do. I think it may be this aversion to sadness and constant need for happiness that created phrases like "I'm okay" and "just tired." As far as I know, anyone who asks the question "are you okay" and gets an answer like "fine," "just tired," or "yeah" knows that the responder is, more likely than not, very much not okay. This need for happiness is also why many of those who become depressed feel the need to fake a smile and hide it. Those who are or have been depressed tend to understand this layer of society, and often operate under it, but dislike it. They are the ones who let people smile away, but they are also the ones who understand just what that smile means. We see but we do nothing. We pay no attention to those little hints... (I stopped writing here, but it seemed like I had more to say. I'll come back later and finish it more likely than not.)
