Not What It Seems

Chapter Two

I shot up from my seat and started to run over to him forgetting about the bags and peoples legs that were in my way so about halfway down the isle I suddely felt myself plummeting towards the floor and muffled my cry of pain as my face hit it and whatever hard substence it was made out of. 

Everyone burts out laughing and I just pulled myself back up pinching my nose to try and stop it's bleeding while now watching the ground more carefully. 

My brother reached out and grabbed me as I reached the door and handed me a tissue.

"Thanks," I mumbled and watched as my other two siblings more carefully packed their stuff not seeming to hear the hint of urgency in his tone. 

"Um, may I ask why you are taking the rest of your family out of this class, Erik?" the teacher snapped.

"You'll find out soon enough," Erik said then added on more urgently, "hurry the hell up guys!" 

Finally, after what seemed like ages of waiting Lily and Garet came through the door and my nose stopped bleeding although I was going to have to give my white shorts and black and white stripped shirt a bit of scrubbing. 

"What's wrong and what so urgent?" I asked looking at him worridly, "Did something happen to mom and dad?" 

He looked at me, "Yea, they were caught in an accident and that's why I got here late cause I got caught up in the traffic from it and then realized who it was in the wreck and got here as fast as I could but we need to hurry up and get to the hospital because apparently dad's pretty bad off and is in ICU and then mom they said onloy had a few scratches." 

I stared at him a look of complete and uter horror on my face. 

"Oh well, that's not as bad as I thought it was I mean it would've been worse if the house burt down and all my clothes and designer bags with it cause I think I would die then," Lily said with a sigh of relief on her face. 

I instantly slapped her straight across the face and yelled, "You bitch I have no idea how the hell I wound up related to you and your careless soul from hell!"

She stared at me shocked opening her mouth to say some snide remark and probably hit me back but Erik just ignored her being used to it and pulled on my arm, "Come on! We need to go! That means you too Garet!" he said and I looked back to see Garet's face a mask of horror and shock. I thought I saw some confusion there too but I wasn't sure cause I was soon running out the doors and hopping into the front seat of Erik's car. 

Garet got in sliding right across the backseat and of course little miss beauty pagent took her little time and started complaining about not getting the front seat. 

"Why don't you just shut that fucking mouth of yours and give us all a break from your prissy perfect world where you care about nothing other than yourself," Erik yelled as he slammed his foot on the gas and I was pushed back into my seat by the sudden acceleration. 

Lily instantly started up when he yelled at her like always," You know I'm pretty sick with you also. Just because you're the oldest out of all of us doesn't mean that you know everything and are the boss. You piss me off with all yo--" She was cut off as Garet cut in. 

"Oh my god Lily! Shut the hell up for the last time. Erik is right. You need to get out of your little world that revolves all around you think about someone else like mom and dad for a change," he said.

I turned back and looked at him my jaw hanging open. I had never ever in my whole entire life or the entire time that Garet became my brother and entered this world heard Garet say something like that or stand up to Lily cause normally he's like her little pet because he's so quiet and sensative. 

"Just shut up Garet no one cares what you have to say," Lily snapped at him then turned to stare out the window ignoring us. 

I laughed and a small grin formed on my face and I turned my head to look at Erik slightly and said, "Can I please shoot her?" 

He just smiled and laughed a bit then frowned as the hospital came into sight. 

The car instantly was filled with a forboding atmosphere. 

He pulled into the hospital and parked in the emergency room parking area I think but I didn't hesitate or wait for anyone before jumping out of the car and running towards the hospital ignoring everything and focusing on getting into the hospital.

The electric doors weren't fast enought from me so I wound up running into them causing my nose to bleed again.

"FUCK!" I screamed and held onto my nose and ran the the emergency desk ignoring the looks people were giving me.

"I need to know where Douglas Evergreen is," I said hastily not able to stand still.

"You are?" she asked.

"His daughter Shade and then my two other brothers and sister should be coming in here in a second. Please tell me where he is," I said starting to whine towards the end.

"Ummm...he's in ICU in room 3," I ran ignoring her words after that towards the ICU hall and rushed through the locked doors as adoctor was walking out and started yelling at me telling me I wasn't supposed to go in without a hospital personel with me.

I saw my dad standing next to the door and I ran to him looking into her room through the glass. 

"Mom, please tell me she's gonna be alright...please...please, please," I cried trying to get a grip on myself as loud sobs started racking through my body. 

 "I don't know sweetie," she said not even trying to hold me. My mom didn't like me not one bit but I couldn't help but care about her. Suddenly, I heard a loud beep that started to go on forever and screamed, "No, no, no, no,no mom he's flatliining no this can't be happening." 

I started to go into a panic attack and was suddenly grabbed by two nurses and was dragged kicking and screaming out of the ICU area where they left my at the doors with Erik. 

"God damnit let me back in!" I cried banging on the door then after a couple minutes I slid to the ground crying. 

 "Fuck my life, just fuck it," I cried to myself and curled into Erik's chest and he kneeled down and wrapped his arms around me. He was trying not to cry I could tell cause his eyes were really watery.

"You know you d-don't need to be strong just for me. I always hold you back on everything and you are always there form me but I also need to learn how to handle myself without your help you know," I mumbled as I tried to stop crying, "and I'm getting makeup all over your shirt..."

He just smiled and held me even closer,"I do all those things because I love you Shade...I love you more than mom and dad and more than Lily or Garet. I lo-"

Mom suddenly walked out of the ICU hall with a straight emotionless look of her face and we both stood up then Lily and Garet came over at the sight of her. 

"Well, what's the verdct?" Lily snapped. 

"He's...h-he's dead..." mom said and just walked out into the lobby not saying anything else. 

A loud sob rose in my throat and I fell the world turning black.
