Hickory snuggled with the thick, warm comforter. He was still quite tired from staying up Christmas Eve watching as many Christmas movies as he and Gilbert could. Gilbert hadn't seen any of the classics, so Hickory took it upon himself to show Gilbert his favorite movies.
Partially awake, Hickory could feel the absence of Gilbert next to him. He opened his eyes, catching rays of sunlight peeping through the slits of the blinds. Hickory stretched himself across the whole bed, groaning at the pull of his weary muscles. Through his slitted eyes, he could see the door slowly opening.
"Morning Gil", Hickory yawned.
Gilbert opened the door quicker, Hickory now sitting up. Gilbert put his arms around the frail frame, gently squeezing him. Hickory smiled, wrapping his own arms around Gilbert.
"Good morning Silv", Gilbert spoke joyfully. "Glad to see you're awake. It's nearly eleven", he laughed.
Hickory leaned back, resting his hands on Gilbert's shoulders. Gilbert held onto the bends of Hickory's elbows, moving forward and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm sorry. I'm not used to staying up so late", Hickory admitted.
Hickory pushed Gilbert backwards, laying on top of him. He rested his arms under Gilbert's head, laying his crown of curls in the crook of Gilbert's neck.
"Can I have five more minutes please", he said sleepily.
"No way", Gilbert chuckled. He reached for Hickory's sides, tickling him to get him up.
Hickory went into a laughing fit, squirming away from Gilbert's hands.
"Okay okay! I'm up I'm up!"
Hickory rolled over, pushing himself up from the bed and onto the floor. He held a hand out for Gilbert, letting him pull himself up. Gilbert took hold of Hickory's hand, pulling him through the living room and into the kitchen.
"Oh, it smells like cinnamon", Hickory commented, taking a long whiff of the sweet air.
Gilbert lifted two plates off the counter, showing them to Hickory before setting them down on the small round table. Next to the plates were cups to accompany them.
"I made us some cinnamon french toast and hot chocolate."
Hickory smiled at him. He was so sweet. Gilbert sat down, shortly followed by Hickory who had grabbed them some silverware and napkins. Once sat down, Hickory eagerly dug into his plate.
"Mmmm. They taste so good", Hickory complimented.
"Glad you like them."
Both sat in a comfortable silence, enjoying the breakfast that Gilbert had graciously cooked. Hickory wasn't sure how he made the hot chocolate, but it sure tasted better than how he did it.
"So I have something I'd like to do today", Gilbert spoke after finishing his plate.
Hickory looked up at Gilbert with curiosity. He was glad that Gilbert had something in mind. All Hickory planned was a gift he wanted to give Gilbert, even though he said he didn't want to do any gifts. Hickory felt this one was necessary though.
"I want to take you some where. It's not too far. Nine told me about it, and I think you'd like it", Gilbert continued.
Hickory picked up the plates and cups and began to wash them.
"What is it", he asked.
"Well I can't tell you! That'd ruin the surprise!"
"Oh alright", Hickory laughed, finishing up with cleaning.
