A large crowd inside of a small bar is gathered around to watch a brute man, that is somewhat intoxicated from hours of drinking, haughtily boast about himself. "Go ahead! Try me! There is no one in this entire town that could defeat me, Norlamin Serpenthelm in a battle of strength!" Norlamin stumbles around the bar approaching anyone who gives him the smallest of looks "What are you looking at?!" Norlamin exclaims at the bars patrons. "Lord Serpenthelm, I am going to have to ask that you please leave my establishment" a small bartender says "What'd you just say to me?" Norlamin retorts at the bartender as he picks him up by the shirt and pins him to the wall. "Do you know who I am?" The stench of alcohol stains Norlamin's breath, "I am well aware sir, you are Norlamin Serpenthelm, Nordic warrior who has saved our town of Everwinter from dragons, orcs, and vampires countless times!" Tears start to well in the bartender's eyes due to his current state of paralysis in fear. Norlamin notices the pure terror in the bartender's face, he releases the bartender from the wall and onto the floor. "That's right, and... and don't ever forget it!" Norlamin looks around the bar as he notices that the town is appalled by his behavior, as a hot wave of shame comes across Norlamin he hastily exits the bar.
Norlamin rushes outside into the large town of Everwinter, a small village where every face is familiar. The houses rest in the town are all average sized homes that fit a thame and his wife, the streets are always lit with the warm glow of lantern lights, and there is never a store that will not be open.
When Norlamin shuts the door to the bar he turns around to breath in the fresh air of the night, to try to calm him down of his anxiety. "You've done it again my lord, you've let your anger get the better of you." A small man in brown robes says to Norlamin, Norlamin looks up and sees that it is his young friend and partner, Eldak Loyalar, Norlamin pauses and says "My anger had nothing to do with what occurred in there." Eldak looks at Norlamin with a slight annoyance "Do you really believe that you would have beaten an innocent bartender senseless, simply because he told you you've had too many drinks?" Norlamin looks at Eldak in shock "I would not have beaten the man at all!" Eldak goes over to Norlamin and puts his arm around him "Face it lord Serpenthelm you have not protected this town in years, you're angry, however when you did, you saved hundred of lives and we are ever so grateful for what you've done, but we have all learned from past attacks and we have tightened out defenses." Norlamin looks at Eldak and says "Yes but this town is forever in my debt, I saved everyone! If not for me we would all be dead. You do not understand Eldak, they... they worshipped me! They loved me! But now it seems as though no one bats an eye at me." Eldak tries to comfort Norlamin by reassuring him that the town still appreciates him "I know that not being given appraisal by your fellow townspeople is hard after being used to it for that of a decade, but just because we do not stop and bow at your feet does not mean we still do not appreciate what you have done" Norlamin walks to his home as Eldak follows right behind "I just... I wish something would happen again, like how it used to. Quests would be a daily task for me, my life had adventure and it had meaning." Eldak helps Norlamin into the door "You never know sir, the gods work in many strange ways, perhaps they are just waiting for the right moment." As Eldak helps the drunken Norlamin, the behemoth of a man compared to Eldak, into his bed, he becomes exhausted and too tired to move, so he makes a place to sleep on the floor and they both rest for the night.
