Tasha’s Point of View
I hadn’t noticed that Darren had been driving aimlessly for quite a while until he pulled over on the derelict road. He takes the key out of the ignition and looks over to me. I stare back with furrowed brows.
“You know you look really hot tonight Natasha?” Darren says undoing his seatbelt and leaning closer to me.My cheeks highlight in an awkward blush. Big hands grip onto my thigh as he leans in forward. He smashes his lips against mine and his tongue stiffly enters my mouth very abruptly. I place my hands on his chest and push him off me.
“What do you think you’re doing?!”
I wipe the excess saliva off my mouth. Darren turns around and punches the steering wheel, “Fucking hell Natasha. I take you out for dinner at a fancy restaurant, I pay for fucking dinner! The least you could do is put out god dammit.”
His outburst makes my jaw drop. I honestly couldn’t believe my ears.
“You pig! You think just because you were being a gentleman I automatically have to ‘put out’? I only meet you tonight?!”
A smug smile appears on his face and his raw red lips part to let out a chuckle, “Get out.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Get out.” He says almost monotone as he stares out the windscreen.
I am about to protest but I choke on my words. Why would I want to spend any more time in this asshole’s presence? I undo my seatbelt and stumble out the car. I straighten out my shimmery cocktail dress and slam the door of his crappy station wagon shut. He doesn’t even give me the chance to get away from the car before his tyres screech and he’s off in a cloud of dust.
“Pig.” I spit.
I look around me and quickly realise that I was too busy having a go at Darren in the car that I had no idea where the heck I was. My hand reaches into my clutch for my phone. To my dismay I have no service.
“Fuck.” I murmur under my breath.
I look closer at the screen of my lit up phone as I saw something appear on it. No, it can’t be? A raindrop. Just my luck. It had been a rather balmy evening and it rarely rained in California.
*Plop* another one hits my screen. *Plop* *Plop* another two. It’s not long before the clouds open and it starts heavily raining. I kick the dirt in anger let out a very un-ladylike groan. I suppose I should just start walking, I mean standing here is as useful as trying to get a baby to sleep by playing heavy rock.So here I am, wandering along the road of god knows where in my drenched cocktail dress. How the fuck did I end up here?
Austin’s Point of View
I storm out of Vanessa’s bedroom with her trailing behind me trying to explain herself. I turn around abruptly and she almost bumps into me. She stands there pulling her robe together with a distressed look on her face.
She places her hand on my forearm, “Look Austin, baby I can explain-“
I cut her off, “No, Vanessa you cannot explain the pair of boxer briefs, that I have no recognition of owning, lying by your bed. You cheated on me Ness. It’s over okay?”
She stands there like a possum in the headlights of an oncoming car. I swivel on my heel and head to the door whilst doing up the buttons on my shirt. I have clearly made my point so there is no use in staying here any longer. Upon opening the door I zip up my coat at the sight of rain. Heavy rain. I jog down the steps of Vanessa’s apartment to my car. I don’t think I could’ve got out of her house any faster. I sit there in my car, reflecting on what I had just done. I nod in confirmation of my decision, start up the car and drive. I don’t intend on driving home though, I need to unwind. A nice drive through the countryside will do me just fine. The rain pelts at my windscreen and the wipers are struggling to do their job. It’s hard to make out anything along the road. I turn it on the radio and wind the volume button around. The speakers in my car vibrate along to the bass of the music. My fingers tap along to the rhythm on the steering wheel. I get so into it that I hardly notice the silhouette walking along the side of the road.
“What the… Who would be out tonight?” I murmur.
I turn down the volume and pull over cautiously to the side of the road next to the person.
Tasha’s Point of ViewIt had been about twenty minutes before I even saw a car, but it just sped past carelessly. I look down at the slightly muddy road I was walking on. My long natural ombre locks stick to my face with the rain and my dress isn’t looking anywhere as glamorous as it did at the beginning of the night. I heave a shallow sigh. A slow hum and crackle of gravel sound behind me. Squinting at the lights of the sleek car behind me I stop, preparing myself to put up a fight. You can never be careful enough nowadays with strangers. The car slowly approaches beside me and the window unwinds. The occupant of the car, a guy around my age with blonde hair, leans over the passenger seat. I bend down a little so I can see into the car.
“Something either really bad has happened to you, or you’re just bat shit crazy to be out here in this weather.” The guys says with a bit of a smirk.
“Are you going to offer me a ride or not?”
He puts his hands up in defence, “Woah,” he chuckles, “hop in.”
I look down at the state of myself. “Are you sure you don’t want to put anything down on the seat? I don’t want to wreck it.”
I admire the interior of his car. White leather with black trim.
“Don’t worry about it.” He gestures with his hand to come in.
He leans over once again to open the door for me. I, as elegantly as possible, sit down and swivel my legs in. The wetness of my dress against the leather of the seats lets out a very disturbing squeak. The stranger laughs and I blush in embarrassment.
He looks over at me, assessing me as I do the same to him. He was tall, that was obvious. I was about 5’’7 and I had to tilt my head upwards to make eye contact with him. Amazing bone structure, his face was graced with prominent cheek bones and plump lips. His cloudless blue eyes look me up and down. I quickly look down in embarrassment. I suddenly feel self-conscious, this guy looks flawless and here I am in a state of smudged makeup and wet hair.
He clears his throat, “I-I’m Austin.”
I look up at him and he offers a smile.
"I'm Natasha." I offer him my hand. "But everyone just calls me Tasha."
He takes my hand and beams, "Nice to meet you Tasha."We drive in silence for a bit til Austin attempts at breaking it.
"So Nat- Tasha. What brings you to the countryside of California on a wonderful night like this?" sarcasm is warm in his voice.
"Trust me when I say you really don't want to know." I reply.
"Oh c'mon, it can't be that bad." he laughs.
I sigh, "It's rather embarrassing actually."
"Well I'm not here to judge you."
I look over at him and he offers me a smile, urging me to tell him.
"Well a friend of mine set up a date me,"
Austin winces, "Ooooh, the old 'blind date' eh?"
I laugh and nod, "So he takes me out for dinner, it's all hunky dory ya know. It's going well. So anyway I was so emerged into our conversation that I hardly realised that he'd driven us all the way into the country! He parks up and then tries to come onto me!"
Austin gasps sarcastically. I slightly nudge him, making sure to be cautious as he's driving after all.
"You said you wouldn't be one to judge!" I huff.
"Well in this day and age it's hard to find that in girls."
"Find what? Morals?"
He nods, "Basically, but hey I respect you for it."
I smile in appreciation of his comment. "So why were you driving these roads huh? You're car looks a bit out of place here." I smile and he returns it.
"If you really want to know, I found out my girlfriend of two years cheated on me and decided to come for a drive along here to cool off."
I bite my lip, "You win."
His hands tighten on the steering wheel and an awkward silence is evident in the car once again.
