Prologue
I dove into the last room in the hall. In mid-air I snuck a peek behind me to see if Mélochant has turned the corner yet. No such luck. Mélochant was huge; at least six foot five. I'd place him at 200-220 pounds, all muscle. He wore a black suit with matching slacks with a white shirt underneath. His tie was a bright baby blue. It was a whimsical color for a man like him. He was taking his sweet time walking towards me.
We made eye contact for a split second. I will never forget his eyes. They were the eyes of a mad man. The pupils were dilated so much that I could barely see the whites of his eyes. The much that I saw was the degree of bloodshot you get after staying up and strenuously working for multiple days without sleeping. The next thing I noticed about him was the lead pipe in his right hand. It looked dangerously heavy. He could only have one use for it. I'm pretty sure it is intended for me. His left hand was clutching a wound on his side. I could only guess at what had happened.
"Come on out Delilah! I know you're here somewhere!" Méchant said mock-playfully
I could only imagine the grin that was playing on his face. His laughter cut through me like an ice blade going down my teeth, down my spine, through my feet, and back up. Damn! There aren't any windows! I looked around. Yes! It's an office! There might be something to use as a weapon. Then I noticed it. Everything was locked and bare! Huge padlocks were attached to almost every surface. There wasn't even a pencil or pen that I could stab him with.
"Come on Delilah! You won't find anything in there! Come on out and maybe I can help!"
God he was annoying! But he was right; there wasn't anything in here! I'd been set up!
If only he'd stop laughing, maybe I could think straight! I started hyperventilating. The oxygen wasn't enough to calm me down. I looked around one more time. Then it happened,
