A poem or story, well whatever you want to call it by; Daniel Bailey (aka) The Danman258
The battle was over and the skies had started to clear with the dust of evening appearing. The Enright’s and the Trident people had come to treaty and the year war was at an end.
As we come to the riverside view there stood two of the Enright’s strongest warriors. The one, who was called Drake was on his knee packing his things looking up to his partner in battle and quietly spoke, “Comrade, you are more than a soldier to me, you are my friend and when I am back with my noble family I shall tell them of you and ask if you can join in the council to help me to make a stronger political front.
Uric with his tall muscular frame throws his saddle over his horse and laughs and shouts, “My friend, that’s not a move of a friend. For politically I am fine with you in council, because I fought this war that we can raise family and farm our land without fear. Politics is not for me my great warrior friend.”
And as Drake started to go on his political rant, a beautiful maiden was passing by with her hair caught in the wind showing her lovely neck line and her garment was clinging tight to her body causing all the men to stare.
The two strong warriors rushed to her side, both speaking at the same time. She smiled and kept in step to join her brothers who were calling out to her. They both spoke again at the same time trying to beat out the other.
The maiden spoke quickly, “I know of both of you and both your greatness in the war. But I must join my brothers for my father’s funeral. I do seek to marry but only for love, but first you must talk to my brothers.
As the two soldiers backed away Drake spoke, “Her beauty will be perfect for the courts standing by my side as my bride.”
Uric answered Drake’s words with, “You heard her, she will only marry for love, I shall be that love.”
The two comrades looked at each other as if a battle was near and the fair maiden was to be had by the victor. They both went to the funeral and both spoke to the brothers of their wanting for their sister. The brothers came up with an answer for the two hearts taken soldiers.
Go 50 miles to the city of Bangor and on the south side of the city you will find the tribe of Bang. There you will find our mother, and let her decide who will be our sister’s husband.
Drake rushed to his horse and hurried on his way. Uric headed to the banks of the river and picked flowers from the reefs and went to the pretty maiden and said.
Drake is a good man and one day will be a great political force and can give you all your hearts desires. But I want to work the land, fall in love and have many children. My bride will have to be strong, diligent, and beautiful as you and want for only what we can produce. If this is what you seek, than I pray you find this in me. If you seek more than there is no greater man to give it than Drake and I will honor your choice.
Days went by and not one word from the maiden and Drake would be back from the city of Bangor. Uric felt defeated and started to pack his things as he waited for Drake. As Uric mounted his horse the maiden came and asked to speak, “I told the both of you; I will only marry for love, and no matter what my mother or brother says, I will only marry for love. Love takes time and courtship, trails and mistakes and most of all learning each other. And I want it all. That’s what will decide my love.
Stay tuned in for my next update.
You will be surprised how she decides.
