"Well, it looks like one of us is going to die tonight."
"It's not going to be me. I won't go without a fight.'''
"Take that heathen!" Graham said as he slammed his hands on the controller buttons.
Lucas had watched the screen and tried to retaliate the attack but, it had only taken a little over an eighth of Graham's health bar.
"YOU WANK! I thought we agreed on no special moves!"
"Common man, did you really think I would waste the perfect time? You were wide open!"
"FINISH HIM!"
Graham made the final combination and threw his hands up in celebration.
"I'm still the king!" he shouted and danced around the room. "Suck it! Pay up dude."
Lucas sighed loudly as he got out his wallet. He pulled out a ten dollars bill and the coupon to the frozen yogurt place down the street from Graham. Graham took his winnings and kissed them before putting them into his own pocket.
"Do you want me to grab you anything? I'm getting a Coke from kitchen."
Lucas looked down and shook his head,
"Nah, I'm good. Trying to find my pride after loosing.""Suit yourself, you know where I keep the movies." Graham said as he walked out the door.
He slid down the rail on the stairs and went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator door and peaked around for a Coca-Cola, but saw the six pack of Bud Light on the bottom shelf. Graham's parents were in Vancouver for the week, so he thought he'd take his chances.
"Hey, want a beer?" He said ready to toss one to Lucas.
"I thought you were getting a soda. Where'd you get beer?"
"My dad kept it in the fridge."
"Alright. I don't drink so, I'm going to have to pass." Lucas looked back at the television and slipped the video in. The loud and obnoxious THX sound shook the house so naturally, he rushed to turn the TV down before his ear drums bled.
"Why do you still watch that movie? It's so childish." Graham said sarcastically.
"Monsters Inc. is not childish. It teaches children not to judge a book by its cover!"
He just laughed at Lucas.
"Pansy."
Graham pulled up a kind of bean bag the was in a wicker frame and one for his friend. Taking another sip, he burped and relaxed further into the chair.
Their relationship was different. To Lucas, Graham's smart ass comments were kind of a nice gesture. It humanized him in a strange way.
"So, what's it like upstairs? I was never smart enough to make it into any AP classes let alone the ones I'm in now."
"It's" Lucas thought. "It's like downstairs but everyone's so worried about 'GPA this' and 'I GOT INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF insert first choice here.' It's exhausting."
He took a seat on the chair pulled up and looked at television.
Graham took another sip of his beer and started to talk before swallowing. "Hey, is Danielle in any of your classes this year?""No, she had this crazy idea she's going to be a culinary major. Danielle's in the other building for her classes now. I think it's great and all that she has her life together but, I've eaten her food and if she asks you if you want pineapple without explaining what you're eating, say no."
"Man, is she one of those people? I had so much faith in her."
They both sighed and leaned further back in their chairs.
