It was late in the evening. The cool breeze coming in through my open window. Frogs croaked, the crickets played, and everything was peaceful. I was drifting off to sleep listening to nature's music when I heard it. The sound of my phone going off. Who would be calling me at nearly midnight? I picked my phone up to see that it was Tessa. I answered it.
"Tessa, why are you calling me at midnight?"
"Sera, oh thank heavens you answered. Kai and Noah are at my house right now. You need to get over here."
"Tessa, if this one of your silly pranks again, I will not be happy."
"I promise it isn't. Please, something is wrong and we think you have it too."
"Fine, I'm on my way."
I hung up the phone, grabbed my keys from my purse, and walked out to my car. A gift from Noah for my eighteenth birthday. I think he felt obligated since I got him a car for his twentieth birthday. Since the girls were too young to take care of themselves, we took them under our wing. Made them and each other a family, a pact.
Since my parents died, I've had the house to myself. I admit it can get lonely but I liked being by myself. No worries, no stress, no fighting with other people. I could only assume it was the same for the others since their parents went missing as well.
Whatever happened, I would probably end up staying the night at Tessa's anyway so I didn't bother changing out of my pajamas. I turned on the ignition and pulled out of my driveway. It soon got hot in the car. I didn't think much of it until I reached to turn off the heat in my car; it was already off. No big deal, just roll down the window. My hair was getting in my face so I pulled off the road. I found a hair tie on the passenger's seat of a cup of water into the living room. Her black hair was wavy and long. She must have recently taken a shower because her hair was damp and tied back. She set the glass on the oak coffee table and backed up.
"What is this? Tessa are you playing a prank on me again? I told you-"
"Tessa isn't pranking you. You would see that if you would just watch." Noah said.
I was about to protest but Noah's blue eyes stared me down. I gave in and looked at Kai. Noah nodded towards her and Kai raised her hand towards the glass. The water was still, motionless, nothing happening. I was growing impatient. Still I waited. Suddenly, the water inside the glass started to rise. It took the form of a wave. Similar to a beach when the waves roll in and crash towards the shore. I was astonished and frightened. How is that possible? Soon the water started to sloppily the car and pulled my long blonde hair into it. I checked in the mirror and noticed the scar on my collarbone. I must have scratched it earlier. I looked up to check my face for any scars when I saw my eyes. Dark circles sat below my hazel green eyes. I turned back onto the highway and got off on the exit to Tessa's house. As I pulled into her driveway, I noticed that her windows were closed, they are never closed in the living room. What on earth could be going on? I walked up the front steps in my comfy slippers and knocked on the door. The front door swung open and I was dragged inside.
"Oh thank goodness you're finally here! What took you so long?!" Tessa exclaimed. Her skin was pale compared to mine. Her dark brown hair hung in small ringlets that stretched down to her waist. Her brown eyes complimented her hair. I noticed her hand still held my wrist and I pulled away.
"Well I was sleeping until someone called me and said that it was an emergency. So start talking." I said.
Noah walked towards me. "Move your hair away from your neck, please." I hesitated for a moment, then did what he asked. He looked at my collar bone where the scar was. "She has the scar too." He said to the others.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"We all have a scar on our collarbone. We don't know how they got there though." He said.
"You're not making any sense to me. Start talking or I'm leaving." I was tired and confused. What did they want?
"Umm, we might just want to show you. Kai." Tessa pointed to Kai, who brought crash back into the glass, spilling out and onto the table and floor. The table started to shake. Kai looked up at me and the water calmed again. "I'm surprised I didn't get soaked this time." Kai said.
"How?" I asked. "This isn't possible. Tessa, I told you no more tricks!" I was boiling with anger. I told them I hated pranks, and I can spot one when I see one.
"This isn't a prank Sera! Tessa and I can do stuff to. Look." Noah nodded towards Tessa and they stepped towards me. Noah had blonde hair that was just longer than a buzz cut. His skin was tanned, from being outdoors. His blue eyes sparked with the light from the living room.
He looked at me and held his hand flat out, palm up. Soon a mini tornado formed on the palm of his hand. It only lasted a few moments before it disappeared.
Tessa walked over to the plant in the corner of the living room. She placed her hand on one of the dying leaves and it became full of life again.
"Do you all seriously think I'm stupid enough to believe that you all just magically have these powers?" I pointed at the plant for emphasis which caught on fire. I backed away slowly until I was against the opposite wall, away from my friends.
"I guess we know she has the fire then." Kai said as she patted the plant to stunt it's burning flames.
