Preface
It's my nineteenth birthday today and for some reason I can't explain, I don't feel as happy as I should. I've lived in the same house my whole life. Its a big house with five bedrooms and a perfectly kept garden.
There's only four other houses on my street, and I guess you could say that its considered one of the poshest roads In the area. I've lived a privileged life and never wanted for anything.......... except a girlfriend.
Don't get me wrong there's never been a shortage of female attention, in fact some might say that girls throw themselves at me. But I'm yet to find the right one. Being a virgin at nineteen Is considered really pathetic amongst my circle of friends. My best mate Jack loves to brag about all the girls he's been with and constantly makes jokes at my expense. I try not to let it get me down, but knowing I've reached yet another birthday and still never had a girlfriend is really depressing.
I take a deep breath as the hot water from the shower hits my face. I rinse the shampoo from my hair and smile to myself for being such a jerk. Its my choice after all to wait for the right girl, I don't want just anyone to be my first. I want someone beautiful and sweet, someone that means something to me. With that in mind I snap out of my little sulk and get myself ready for a night out with friends.
"Lucas hurry up and get your ass down here boy" my mate Jack calls up the stairs to me.
"Alright I'm coming, you know perfection can't be rushed" I joke.
Tonight Jack and I are meeting up with some friends and then going onto a club. His girlfriend Jenna or should I say latest squeeze as he calls her is bringing along a couple of her flat mates and Jacks dying to set me up.
I'm nothing like Jack though, he's had more girlfriends than i've had hot dinners. I'm not opposed to going on casual dates, in fact i've been on a few, but until I find the right girl that's all they'll ever be.
I know for a fact that I won't find the girl of my dreams hanging out with Jenna, I'm looking for someone with a little more class.
I take one last look in the mirror and grab my keys and wallet off my bedside table. As I make my way down the stairs I cringe when I hear Jack joking with my mum about how he's found the perfect girl for me tonight.
"Finally the pretty boy is ready! did you remember to exfoliate?" Jack says sarcastically as I enter the kitchen.
"Hey Jack Wilson! you leave my boy alone, he can't help that he was blessed with his mothers good looks."My mum says whilst trying to hold back her laughter.
"Yeah yeah very funny" I say. "Anyway if you two have quite finished planning my love life, I would like to get out of here."
"What love life?" Jack says with a smirk, but quickly shuts up when I shoot daggers at him with my eyes.
"You boys have a good time, and Lucas be careful," my mum says in her warning tone.
"Mum I'm always careful, you don't need to worry about me. I love you, don't wait up." I tell her as I head towards Jacks car.
I've always had a close relationship with my mum but sometimes she needs reminding that I'm nineteen not five.
I jump in the passenger side of Jacks run down ford escort and we make our way into town. Its busy on a saturday night and finding somewhere to park can be a nightmare.
We decide that instead of driving round all night looking for a space it would be quicker to just abandon it, and so we do down a quiet little cul-de-sac.
He's bound to get a ticket or worse get clamped, but right now we don't care, were wasting precious drinking time.
When we get to the pub the place is heaving, its definitely standing room only.
