Well, to answer your first question: I doubt that friends will do anything for you, for many just use you. Take Alois and Ciel for example. But, since I don't have any friends, why not? What can be so bad about having a few friends?
For your second question: Human spiders and demon spiders don't have the same life span. We tend to live forever, until another demons kills us.
