Chapter 2:
Pick up the phone Rach. Pick up the damn phone Rachel. PICK UP THE MOTHER EFFING PHONE! Jolting awake, I glanced over to my phone on my side table and stifled a groan as I saw Steph's name flashing on the screen. Glancing at the time on my phone, I let out a groan for real this time. The digits 12:53 were flashing on the screen almost as if it were mocking me. Steph is gonna slaughter me.
Running my hand through my hair, I tried to untangle all the knots that seemed to magically form overnight. Needless to say, that failed, EPICALLY. In a daze, I got up and mindlessly wandered around my room as I got ready.
A small thought of Steph's anger drifted through my mind, but I ignored it and continued on with getting ready at my own slow pace. I knew I was going to regret it but at that moment all I could think of was having a nice long hot shower and then going down and eating my mum's warm and super gooey chocolate pancakes! My mouth was salivating at just the thought. After much delay- I decided to change outfit about 5 times, no joke. I mean here I was, finally- I finally arrived at Steph's house and was just cringing at the thought of her answering the door.
"I'm so sorry Steph, I slept in and then my mum made those incredible..." Trailing off, I stole a glance at her face and almost recoiled in shock. She was obviously stressed, sporting a deep crease between her eyebrows.
"Whatever, just get to work" She said, throwing me a towel and gave me a faint but evidently stressed smile.

Ugh what was I even doing at a party like this? I clearly had no social skills as I couldn't even muster up the courage to talk to one guy when I was with Lalli. How the hell was I supposed to talk to a guy one-on-one? Looking around I could just see everyone having the time of their lives while I was stuck here in the corner of the garden all by myself. Steph was clearly having the time of her life. Unlike me, she was actually really sociable and everyone loved her. I just didn’t fit in with her.
We weren’t one of those cliché best friends where one is popular and the other is a shy little nerdy girl. Sure I worked hard and passed tests with grades that always left me in the top 5, but I wasn’t that girl who sat in the library and read books while her friends were out playing in the playground. Atleast I’m not that girl anymore.
When I reached highschool, I knew I needed to change. Sure I was voted as school captain in primary school but I knew my nerdy persona wasn’t gonna cut it in the real and harsh world of highschool. But as much as I tried, I just couldn’t escape my never ending shyness. I guess I just don’t belong in any decent or popular group.
With that thought, I took a step back and turned around, ready to leave. But that was when I came face to face with Gabi.
"Gabi!" I exclaimed, attempting to sound excited. I just wasn't in the mood for the party. These people were different to me. They were all in their little groups and I just didn't fit in with these people. I don't think I ever will.
"Hey so how have you been? How is everthing?.." Gabi babbled on. I felt really bad but I just couldn't keep talking to her. I just really needed to get out of there.
"It's good. Look I'm sorry but I can't really talk now. I have to go..." I apoligised, before retreating back to the house.
"Oh..that's ok. I'll catch up with you later..." she trailed off as I left.
I felt awful. I practically just left her stranded there but I just couldn't handle this whole atmosphere. Everyone thought I was really sociable but the truth was that, unless you'd been a close friend for years I was the epitome of shyness and awkwardness. Boy I could make a guy drop his pants just to eliminate the air of awkwardness that surrounds me. A guy actually did that once in grade 5, and let me tell you I could never talk to him again without looking ‘down there’.
Quickly, entering Steph's house I made my way upstairs to head to her bedroom. I sneakily entered her room and softly closed the door behind me. Climbing under her duvet, my head hit the pillow and I was out.
