The Basement

"Mom, what are doing! Stop it! Let go of me!" I screamed as my mother drug me along the hallway floor. My mom didn't reply, she just laughed hysterically along with my dad who was walking tauntingly in front of us.

"Where are we going?!" I screamed, "Mom!!!"
My mom didn't reply with words but instead she firmly gripped my leg and snapped my fibula with one jerk. I screamed at the top of my lungs out of pain. Suddenly we stopped. I couldn't see where we were because my eyes were wet and blurred from my tears. All of a sudden I recognized the sickening creaking of the basement door being opened. Without warning my mother let go of me and in that moment I thought I could escape but when I tried to move I cried out in pain, instantly remembering my broken fibula. That's when I felt my fathers strong hands grip my shoulders. He lifted me off the ground and threw me down the stairs that led to the basement. I must've hit my head on the way down cause when I opened my eyes there was daylight peaking in through the small window in the corner. I gripped my leg when I sat up and clenched my teeth in agony. I slammed my hand down on the cold hard ground and screamed.

"MOTHER!" I yelled, "Let me out of this god damn room!" Expecting no response I silenced myself.

"Honey, you crack me up!" My mother said tauntingly.

"Yes, sweetie, we are NEVER letting you out" my dad said imitating my mother.

"I thought these were just hypomanic EPISODES they shouldn't last this long." I said tearing up. Where were my parents cause those people sure as hell weren't them. I couldn't believe it had gotten this bad. Usually when they have their "episodes" they punch walls or things like that.

"Oh Madison?" My mother said, "are you hungry?" I was in fact hungry but what was the food she was going to give me? I was skeptical of this but I still said yes.

"Yes please." I said cautiously. Then the basement door opened and my mom came down with a plate of normal food. This person was indeed my mom. How did I know? Well I knew by the way she carried herself. She wasn't walking crookedly she was walking faintly across the room and her voice full of grace. She set the plate down on the ground next to me and started towards the door.

"Napkin" My mother said as she left. I looked down at the napkin and there were words written on it. The napkin said:

"My darling Madison, for all these years you have believed that your father and I have a disorder called Hypomanic Episode. But I am writing this to tell you that I do not but your father does. I have been faking it because if I let your father see that I don't he will lose his mind and go completely psychotic. And you know neither of us want that. Now that I am telling you this I will come down tonight at midnight and let you out. You will be free. I love you Maddy! Always"

I started crying. Remembering all the times my mother had hurt me. And now I know she was just playing along.
