The mud squished beneath my feet. Merchants littered the streets and alleys. We lived in the market or around it, no one lived miles away cause who knew what was out there. My shack was on the east side by the patches or what you'd call grass. Farmers claimed these spots to raise their animals and sell them across the galaxy.
I lived in a 7 by 6 foot shack. We all share goods, we trade but never for money. Our "people" never stoop down that low. I have some pelts, some silverware, and small pit in the corner for a fire, and a small cabinet for storing the goods I receive from merchants. I always keep a loaf of bread or whatever that thing is here, a blanket and an aid kit. I always add to it in case something happens.
I earn my keep by traveling to the dumps and collect things that might be good for something. This planet has turned into a sanctuary rather than a prison. I stowed away on a Kateri ship and it got me here.
Walking to the market is not a risky path, but a consuming one. There are no children here, no police. Just adults trying to thrive on a planet that never was.
I reach Shanyne's tent, she sells mostly pipes, but cords too. She is like a mother to me, she was here before me and housed me until I was ready. She is Eldearen, very smart and live very long. She sheltered me from the rain, even though it never stops. In return I bring her anything she needs.
"Morning Shanyne." I greet her as I take off my cloak.
"Elliyna, the sun will shine on Friday! I just know it!" Every week she goes through the same relapse. She is hopeful and I've never given her any less.
"I hope so Shanyne. I hope so." I start to grab the polisher and start to wipe away some of the dirt off the metal.
"This place needs something, soon I hope. Sometimes the rain always falls and sometimes it always blows away." I turn and face her.
"What do you mean?"
"Someone or something will come." She then looks through some pans and browses the cords.
I go back to cleaning the metal making it ship better for sales.
" All good things come to those who wait." I see her walking to the front of the tent, trading with another merchant.
Some day. Some how in some way do, I hope it will. I will have a life other than this planet.
