General POV

They both lunged at eachother, raising their blades in the air. They swung their weapon at eachother until both weapons made contact. When they made contact, the whole base shook with the fierce wavelength that was resonating through the air and the ground.

Both of them were knocked back by the powerful blow. Akuma was surprised to be knocked back that he waited a second to get back up. Soul got back up first, then Akuma. Soul then attacked and Akuma had to defend himself by blocking. The wavelength was so strong that Akuma was forced on one knee.

Soul was concentrating so much on getting his blade to go through Akuma, that Akuma found this as a way to get him to drop his scythe.

Akuma twisted his sword to get under Soul's blade, and then he pulled it to the side. Soul lost contact with his weapon and it disappeared. Soul was surprised and Akuma went in for the kill.

Before Soul could react, Akuma slashed at Soul's chest and knocked him back into the wall. He was severely bleeding. It wasn't as deep as Akuma would have wanted. It wasn't deep enough to kill Soul right away.

Soul could barely move. His arm was already hurting enough and now his chest feels like its on fire. It was so painful. But he had no choice but to try to get up. He had to protect Maka from that monster.

When Akuma was walking slowly towards Soul with a dark murderous aurora around him, Soul was trying to get up. When he finally got up, he tried to summon his weapon again. The light appeared and grew bigger, but when Soul went to touch the light, it disappeared, leaving nothing for Soul. It didn't work.

"I guess that first time was just a fluke. Oh well, you were entertaining, but since I'm bored, I will kill you now." Akuma said while raising his sword.

Soul couldn't find out what was going on, so when Akuma struck, he blocked it with his blade.

Since Akuma was stronger now, Soul was feeling every vibration from Akuma's sword. Soul started screaming in pain because of how much he hurt. Akuma pulled back to strike again, this time though, he was aiming dead center for the heart.

Soul dodged the sword this time. He barely made it in time though. Soul kept dodging over and over. He somehow made it over to where Maka was. Akuma stopped striking his sword because he was afraid that he was going to hit Maka.

Soul took a look at Maka and he felt pain. Not from the wounds he harbored, but from regret, because he thought that he had failed her and he was going to die. He then heard her say something. It was so quiet that he barely heard it but was sure that he knew what she said.

Akuma then picked Soul up so he could be face to face with him. "Good Bye, filthy peasant." He said when he raised that tip of his blade to Soul's heart.

Soul had his bangs over his eyes. In his mind, he kept on repeating the same word that Maka said over and over. A word that he'll never forget.

As soon as he heard Akuma's voice, a light appeared around Soul's hand. Akuma looked at the light and saw it form into a scythe. Akuma then dropped Soul because he was surprised that Soul actually summoned his weapon again.

Soul stood up and said, "Don't count me out yet, Kishin." He raised scythe and struck towards Akuma only to have him dodge Soul's attack.

Soul sprinted at him. Akuma was surprised that Soul was so much faster than before. He could keep track with him at all. He kept on losing him. Soul than pinned Akuma down to the ground and put the tip of his blade to Akuma's chest.

Soul slashed his blade though Akuma's chest and then stabbed his heart. Akuma couldn't do anything about it. His mind went blank. His sword disappeared from sight. He lost it all, including his precious love of his life, Maka. Tears started coming out of his eye.

"What are you crying about? You don't deserve to shed tears you cold-hearted bastard. You deserve the absolute worst death imaginable." Soul said as he leaned in close to Akuma. Soul then started to get up and head towards Maka.

Akuma then, with all of his strength, grabbed Soul's pant leg. Soul turned around and leaned in close again. Might as well listen to his last words. Even if he is the devil.

"Soul…, can you please… do me… one favor?" Akuma asked while coughing up blood.

"What is it?" Soul asked, surprised that this guy has the nerves to ask his enemy for something.

"Can you please… take care of Maka for me? I know… that I'm not going to make it. This means… that I can't watch over her. You… are the only person… that I trust to watch over Maka. I know it didn't seem that I loved her, but… I truly did. She is my light. Please… Soul. Take care of her… for me. I need to know… that she is in good hands." He said slowly, because every word was painful to say. He was coughing up so much blood that he almost chocked on some. "Please…" I'm sorry Maka. I failed.

"Of course I will. With all of my heart, I will watch over her until her dying breath. You can count on it." Soul said while on the verge of tears. This guy isn't such a bad person after all. I'm sorry Akuma.

"Thank you… Soul. Thank… you…" He said before smiling a peaceful smile. Tears were still running down his face, and then he closed eyes ever so slowly.

As soon as he closed his eyes, he saw a bright white light. Then he saw a figure waking from the light towards him. It was Maka smiling at him. "Let's go." She said as she reached an arm out towards him. He smiled and was crying tears of joy while grabbing her hand. "Ya, let's go." And they both ran towards the light together.

Soul saw Akuma take his final breath before he died. Tears were coming out of his eyes. "I'm sorry, Akuma. I'm sorry." It was all Soul could say at the time.

Soul then walked towards Maka and picked her up with all of his strength. "I promise that I will always protect you and watch over you, forever."

The entrance was blown to bits and a whole bunch of meisters came marching in and started exploring the hideout to see if there were any solders there. Kid and Blair ran towards Soul to see if he needed and assistance and if he was alright. They both saw Soul holding Maka and that he was bleeding really bad and all of the place.

A meister found Akuma lying on the ground. He was about to touch him until Soul yelled, "Stop! Don't touch him!"

"But isn't he the Kishin, the one who kidnapped Maka in the first place?" Kid said, confused to what is going on.

"He is, but he was good. I want to bury him." Soul said with bangs over his eyes and tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Alright, then we are going to the hospitable ASAP." Kid said putting a hand on Soul's shoulder.

The Next Couple of Days

Soul's POV

I was sitting next to Maka in the hospitable room, who was still sleeping. I still had bandages all over me. I was still thinking about that fight that I had with Akuma. I hope he's happy where he is.

I then saw a movement from Maka's direction. I went to grab her hand and then she slowly opened her eyes and then she looked at me.

"Good morning Soul." She said while smiling at me and holding my hand tightly.

I started crying and leaned over to hug her. "Good morning Maka."

She was startled, but she then started patting my head. "What happened and where am I?" She asked while looking around the room.

"We are in the hospitable room. I defeated the Kishin while you were passed out." I said while thinking of the painful memories that kept on playing in my head like a broken record.

"Oh, ok. Well, I'm glad that our mission is over. Now we can go home and rest."She said while smiling.

"Ya, let's go home." I said while giving her a loving kiss.
