Its dark. I can't see anything but a blinking light in the distance. Where the heck am I? Last I remember I was playing soccer with my best friend Will. Where is he? Where is my family? What's happening?
Tick. Tick. Tick. ---- Tick. Tick. -- Tick. Tick.
I looked around to see where the noise was coming from. Was it some type of Morse code that was being projected through a speaker. I walked down the sidewalk, toward the beeping light and the sound was getting louder. The same consistent ticking message. Three ticks. Space. Two ticks. Space. Two ticks. I saw a big black speaker hanging onto a lamp post. The light was barely working, it would cut out for a few seconds, occasionally leaving me in a pit of darkness, only being able to see the blinking light which was about 50 feet ahead. All of a sudden I started to understand the ticking. It was saying. "Come." then "Now" then "Nowhere."
So many thoughts stirring in my head. Where am I. What is this noise. What's that light. Why can I understand the ticking and what does "come now nowhere mean!?"
I kept walking toward the blinking red light the words getting louder and piercing my ears as if it was a message i didn't want to hear, like the world is ending or your family is dead. The thing is , though, is that I could tell it was bad but I didn't understand what it meant. I kept repeating the words in my head to see if I could make any sense of it "come now nowhere. Come now nowhere. Come now nowhere." I was now about 30 feet from the light, and I could hear a low sound of people's voices. There was no one to be seen. No one in the shops or houses I was walking past. The only sign of life was the blinking light ahead, so I kept walking. As I got nearer the sound of voices got slightly louder. It sounded like maybe twenty people, in an echo-y room. I came to the red blinking light and stood there staring at it. It was hanging on a tree branch, this little red flashing light, for no apparent reason. "Come now nowhere" was still being projected in the distance, the low roar of people's voices was like static in my ear. I looked around me. Trees surrounded me except for the street I had just come from. "What's happening" I thought to myself. Suddenly i heard the sound of a door opening, I wipped back around to see a wooden door in the ground open and a boy holding it. "Welcome." He said.
"Welcome to what I don't understand." I explained.
"The rest of your people are here, you have heard the call, am I correct? The code that's coming through the speakers, " come now nowhere"? "
"That was calling me here? No I just came to the blinking red light because I don't know where I am. My name is Christina Maree, do you know my family? Do you know where they are or what's happening? I'm afraid I'm completely lost and I have no clue of what's happening. I didn't even understand what the ticking was until all of a sudden it sounded like English. I'm sorry I just--"
"Miss... I'm a bit confused, but only your people can see the light and understand the message. I don't know why you are confused..."
"You don't understand why I'm confused!? I have no idea where I am. I don't know you and I don't know who 'my people' are!? Please tell me what's going on!"
The boy quickly looked to the left of me. His eyes got big and he grabbed me by the wrist.
"Ma'am come with me, we have to go."
"What!?"
He covered my mouth, pulled me down the ladder and brought me to a barracks looking room with three older men in it.
"She found us but she doesn't know who we are. How can this be?" He asked the man leaning on a bed.
"You have much to learn Petire. Give the girl to me, and for goodness sake let her breath." His deep voice flooded the room like a water, filling all the crevices and creaks.
The boy took his hand away from my mouth and I gasped for a breath of air. I collapsed to the ground and began to cry.
The man with the deep voice walked over to me and stood above me.
"So you don't know who we are or why you are here huh?" He said.
I brought my face to look at him and said "no. No sir I don't."
He nodded his head and lifted me into the bottom bunk of a bed.
"I'll let you rest and then explain everything to you, don't worry. You will understand soon. But for now, just understand that your family, isn't your real family. The people here, we are your real family. We all come from the same place. From nowhere.
