My definition of school is:
A place where you will learn a bunch of useless bull crap that you'll probably forget in the next year or so.
Plus when will you ever need to know the news headline of 1983? Never.
Well unless you actually want to be a teacher or something, but I will never be in a job like that, mostly because I find it boring and a waste of my time.
Life is only so long so why spend over 13 years of your life cooped up in a classroom. Take a chance. Learn for yourself. And I know that you'll need some of the information from school, but then why can't show schools focus on that.
But you know what's really funny? Here I am taking about how much school sucks, but I haven't missed a day of school in like 3-4 years. This is mostly because I would over worry about missing a single day. I would ask
What if I miss something important?
How much work will I need to make up?
Will someone ask why I wasn't here?
Will I be disappointing my teachers?
Etc.
