Why Him?!

"Delia, we need you to come over. Kaine is alive." I sigh as I hear the voice mail. Last year he died so why the heck is he back. Why can't no one else I care about come back alive?! Not my sister or my adoptive parents. I punch a wall.

"De, what's wrong?" Oh right, Noh-varr is here.

"Nothing. As per usual I gave a damn about someone and they died but this one is back alive again. Why him?!" I explain quickly. He stands up and gives me a hug patting my hair in an attempt to calm me. I sigh again.

"I know you miss Jennifer but if none of that happened then you wouldn't have met me and I know I'm probably your most favourite person in the universe." I laugh a little.

"Almost. But you have a point, if that didn't happen then I couldn't have taught you about fight variables and I know you loved that lesson." He laughs and let's go with his hands on my shoulders. He looks down at me and shakes his head.

"For a short person you sure know how to fight."

"I'm not that short." I defend. By earth standards I am in fact short but on Maravon everyone is short. I'm tall for my age.

"Remind me how tall you are." He asks.

"Five foot four." I reply.

"So small. Small one." He pats my head one more time and heads over to the kitchen.

"I'm not short!" I yell to him. I leave my apartment and walk down the stairs to collect my mail. I arrive and grab my mail but out the corner of my eye I see him, I see Kaine. I start speed walking up the stair but it eventually turns into a run.

I enter the apartment and close the door. "Were you running?"

"Yes... Kaine is...downstairs" I breathe out between pants. I put the mail on the counter and sit down on a stool. I start looking through the mail. There is a knock at the door but I ignore it. Lizzie, how ever, leaves her room and opens the door. "Lizzie, why?" I face palm and get off the stool. Lizzie steps aside and Kaine enters. She grabs a letter off the pile and runs back into her room.

"You're supposed to be dead. Go back to being dead. Now." I threaten forming a knife behind my back.

"Nice to see you too. Look, Jayla's new team is looking for me. I ran off, I came here to see if you knew what to do." He explains and I stand in front of him.

"Why are you alive...? You should be dead." I talk slowly trying to find the right way to express whatever emotion I'm feeling. Noh-Varr grabs my arm and pulls me back a little. "No one else ever come back so why do you get to." I'm on the verge of tears.

"Delia, calm down. Get rid of the knife." Noh-varr says trying to pry the knife out of my hands.

"I didn't ask to be back but I'm here now even if you don't like it." Kaine tries walking closer to me but I hold the knife in front of me.

"Stop it now." Noh-varr whisper yells in my ear.

"Tell me, friend, how many people have I lost that I care about." I slowly start lowering my knife as Noh-varr takes it out of my hands.

"More than I can imagine. Delia, just calm down ok." Kaine says looking at me.

"No, I'm not going to calm down. After everything I've been put through that is the last thing I'll do. I'm a mess if you couldn't tell." I laugh through tears and turn around.

"I get that you've been put to your limits, just don't hate me for being alive." Kaine leaves the room as I fall to the ground crying. Noh-varr crouches down next to me and pulls me closer to him in a hug.

"It's ok, I'm here." He repeats that a few time and places his chin on my head.

Lizzie burst into the room happily. "I got accepted into the Jean Grey School for gifted youngsters! I don't know the name properly but yay!"
