 “Daddy! Come and look!” called the little girl, down by the creek. Her father waved her off; he was busy. He had a job, after all; he had to put food on the table. He didn't much care what his daughter had to show him. He had probably seen it before. He had seen a lot of the things in these woods before. Most things, he guessed.

It was pretty, the girl noticed, and that was all it took to draw her attention. She wanted daddy to see, but no, daddy was busy. If she were older, she may have noticed how daddy was always busy. Or at least, too busy for her.

Neither of them noticed me. Neither of them cared. Perhaps they should have.

I like the woods. Good hunting.

I pulled the trigger. One down. I don't kill children. Perhaps this one will be the one I was looking for.

Time to collect my bounty.
