Chapter five

El came out of Sam's house shortly after coughing a lot! The house wasn't a house any more but a land of dusts...

He wondered what might have happened to Sam and her father. He was now standing on the pavement when a hand touched his shoulder. He turned back immediately...

Grandma Alice!

"Oh dear! Oh my..."she couldn't finish her sentence and tears were already rolling of her cheeks. She was El's neighbor and El had been raised by eating her cookies and delicious creamy cakes!

"Ohh Grandma! You're still young and beautiful like always! Yo rock lady!!" El couldn't even stop his tears and again he was smiling at the same time. He hugged her tightly and she hugged him back. Old memories flashed in front of his eyes. How mesmerizing they were! Eating cookies from grandma Alice's jar,blueberry cookies and the chocolate ones,sometimes just to annoy Sam stealing her share...

Grandma Alice took El to her small comfy house. It didn't change over the years. The same old brick house,pink walls,windows with flower pots,wind chime dancing with the breeze,the white bench in balcony everything were the same except they were clean and new looking.

Grandma Alice took out the cookie jars and displayed in front of him. He took one out and bite.
"Ohh ohh it feels like heaven now! How I missed it's taste! Oh thanks grandma Alice" he actually felt that way.

"Oh dear, I'm flattered! I knew you'd come here one day so I was prepared! My El. How handsome and manly you've grown! You were only this much..."she was showing with her hand"...when you used to come here and asked for cookies!"her eyes became glassy. She rubbed her eyes with a handkerchief and gave him a warm smile," You and Sam..."

Hearing Sam's name El jerked any then held her hands," grandma, my main reason to come here was to meet Sam. But I couldn't find her here, do you know where she's? Please can you tell me where is she? I'll have to meet her as soon as possible! Please!"

She shot her hand back and got up from the sofa and turned away from him," oh no dear I don't know anything about her! She left with her father a few years ago and I don't know where she's now."

El could say she was lying but didn't say anything just stared at her with blank eyes,dried throat and an immobile gaze! He just couldn't persuade her more for he knew if she wanted to tell she would have done that earlier. He got up from the sofa and placed his hand on her shoulders and she turned back with tears in her eyes and trembling lips"Its ok if u don't want to say me anything. I'll not pressurize you. I know you have your own reasons not to tell me anything 'bout Sam but I'll not give up...at any cost. I'll sure find her sooner or later and bring her with me here and we'll all eat your cookies! And I still love you, Grandma..."

She couldn't resist anymore and broke into tears," I'm sorry Elvin! But I can't do anything about it. I promised her...I can't break that!!! Thanks for understanding dear! I love you too..."

Sobbing she got up an wiped away tears from her chubby cheeks and kissed him on his forehead," You're all very matured now!"

El kissed her hands and approached near the door and opened it. He was wearing his shoes when she came from behind and stood near the doorway.El looked up and gave her a warm smile.

"Try in the east country side of California,near the beach"and then she closed the door behind...
