Of course this isn't what I expected to wake up to. The shrill scream of sirens. Police asking me if I'm alive, how I am, if I can move. But that's exactly what's happening. And I just know these icy fingers gently running up and down my back won't go away.
Groggily, I lift her hand to shield my eyes from the bright flashlight in my eyes. I'm obviously unharmed, I don't feel any pain, so why the hell are they checking me so throughly? And by the feel of it there's an IV needle stuck in my arm. Joy.

"What the hell is going on?" I manage to mutter as I blatantly sit up. Almost immediately a pain shoots through my head, my right arm laces with pain, and my stomach decides dinner wasn't good enough to stay the night. Okay maybe I'm not fine.
My heart was smashing against my rib cage as the last of last nights dinner hit the floor. I let out a guffaw, showing the fact I was choking on my favorite meal, lasagna. Doctors and nurses rushes to clear the puke from my throat, and my only thoughts were,'What an unfortunate way to die. Fatality by: your own throw up! Congrats!'

"Lay down slowly. Don't move much. You have substantial damage to your body. You might not remember but someone broke into your house. Trashed it. Killed your father. You were perhaps a shield a couple times." A doctor I knew as Burt Kingston muttered. He had been my fathers best friend and drinking companion for years. My heart aches for both me and him but my tear ducts didn't work. Neither did my emotions. I was suddenly like a hollow shell of nothing as I curled into a ball and stared blankly at the wall for who knows how long before falling asleep. This would never get easier and only a hell of a lot harder. Waking up would be the hardest thing I've done since I woke up before. For now opening my eyes and moving wouldn't hold any meaning. Just blank stares and empty words.
