Dustspeck's Apprenticeship

Finally!

Dustkit stepped over her littermates and tumbled out of the nursery into the pale morning light. That had been her last night in the nursery because her mother, Leopardstar, told her two dawns ago. She would become an apprentice today! She went over to the fresh-kill pile and sniffed at two old fish from the previous day. They were not appealing. She hoped a hunting patrol had already left to get more fresh-kill. That reminded her that she would get to explore the territory today! Just then, the hunting patrol returned. It was Mistyfoot, Mosspelt, and Blackclaw. They each had a fat trout hanging from their mouths and proceeded to drop them onto the pile Dustkit trotted up to the pile and selected a trout to share with her littermates, Gorsekit and Brackenkit. She shook them awake and they shared the trout outside the nursery. Once they were done, they heard their mother, Leopardstar, call a Clan Meeting. "Oh my god this is it!" Brackenkit squealed. "I know!" Dustkit exclaimed. As the clan gathered below Leopardstar, Dustkit's foster mom, Dawnflower, covered the three kits with vigorous licks. Dustkit ducked away and continued to the clearing with her littermates. They sat at the front of the crowd nervously. Leopardstar began. "Dustkit, please step forward." She said. Dustkit nervously stepped forward, painfully aware of her clanmates staring at her. "May StarClan watch over and protect this apprentice as she trains to become a warrior." Leopardstar said the words that Dustkit had been hearing from outside the nursery walls. "Mistyfoot!" Leopardstar called. "You have wisdom and sharp skills. Please pass this on to your new apprentice, Dustpaw! The clearing exploded into cheer. "Dustpaw, Dustpaw!" They yowled. Then gorsekit and brackenkit went. Gorsepaws mentor was Heavystep  and Brackenpaws mentor was Stormfur. Dustpaw was so exited to tour the territory!
