I welcomed the new year with a smile because I am safe and soundI watched the fireworks through my bedroom window, I am safe and sound
I heard the cheers and shouts of the teenagers next door, they're getting higher and higher while my feet remained on the ground, I am safe and sound
My brother had asked me to join the fun but I stayed where I am...tucked away from flying shrapnels of stray bullets, defective firecrackers, drunkards and monsters
"Happy new year," I murmured as I watched the motions through my window.
I am safe and sound.
The clock struck past midnight and the world was once again blanketed in darkness.
They already run out of fireworks and I'm leaving my place on the sill in favor of the comfort of my bed but before I retreated I saw my reflection on the glass
I had a smile perched on my lips
And what a sad smile it was
