"Lily, dinners ready." A loud but warming voice calls from down stairs. I quickly hop off my bed and throw my house shoes on. "Sorry babe I have to go." I almost yell out into my phone before I press the end button. Running down the stairs I almost trip several times trying to get to my food. I turn the corner expecting to see my favorite seat empty only to see her in it.
"Damn it Tia, can I have the seat for once?" I say pouting while I take the walk if shame to my least favorite seat. As I sit down a sudden strike if pain pierces my ear. I turn around to see my mother standing behind me with her fingers in a flicking position.
"HEY WHAT WAS THAT FOR?" I question as I rub my ear. The pain is unbearable. I don't know how she can pack so much strength into her small thin fingers. "You better watch your mouth around me." My mom says as she scoops mashed potatoes on my plate. "Besides, maybe if you would have paid attention instead of chattin it up with your lil boyfriend, you would have heard me calling you." She has a point there. I look down a little ashamed as I hear Tia chuckling in the background. I give her the stink eye and she puts her hands up for surrender.
"Look if you really want the seat, I'm willing to give it up." Tia says as she stands up and picks up her plate. Did she really just... No? She gave up her seat, for me? I run up and rap my arms tightly around her. She quickly lifts her plate in the air before I crash into her and places it on the table. "THANK YOU SO MUCH TIA! YOU ARE AMAZING!" I squeal as I let go and kiss her cheek. I think I saw light tinge of pink cover her face but I'm probably wrong. We go to our seats and get ready to eat.
Her comes the reason this chair is so Important, my dad. He takes his seat and me and Tia exchange looks. We start to eat our food and the chunks come flying. All in Tia's direction are fragments of dad's meal. He's such a sloppy eater but for some reason the food only flys to his left side so no one likes to sit on that side of him. Tia quickly lifts up her plate out of range of the food bombs. She eats her food while holding her plate in the air.
Dad takes a break from eating and wipes his mouth. "Tia before I forget Mrs. Stewart from the orphanage called, she wanted to say hi to ya. She says you haven't called 'er recently." A look of surprise washes over Tia's face. "Oh crap I forgot. So much for calling her weekly." She says as she removes bits of food from her charcoal black hair. "Now you know your supposed to talk to that kind lady as often as possible. If it wast for her you wouldn't be here with us." Mom says looking straight at Tia with her no non sense eyes in place.
Mrs Stewart is the head lady at Tia's old orphanage in Colorado. After a plane accident about five years ago Tia lost her parents. It was a business trip for her dad and when the plane crashed she was the sole survivor. Because she didn't have any other family members she was placed in an orphanage in the state of the crash. She was from China but for some reason they kept her in the states. When my parents found out about that crash and heard of the little girls story they wanted her apart if this family. So they filed the paper work and and flew her to Michigan to join the Fauset family. We almost instantly became best friends after. I would say older sister but shes only one year older than me.
We continue eating, having small conversations between the four of us. Tia finishes her food first and leaves to call Mrs. Stewart. As soon as she walks away my dad and momma start to exchange questionable eye contact. This is my signal to leave. I take my plate and the plate Tia left to the kitchen and clean them both. Heading upstairs I check my phone to see I have several text from Jeremy asking why I hung up so quickly. Decide to just explain at school what happened and lock my screen.
The thought that I have school tomorrow crosses my mind as I flop on my bed. I'm not excited about it but not upset either. Clubs are starting tomorrow so there's something to be happy about. While just sitting on my bed thinking a quite knock sounds from my door. Getting up from my bed I open the door to see Tia there with a bowl of popcorn, blankets and movies. "Mind if I stay the night?" She says as she waltzes in my room with out an answer. "I like how you just make yourself at home in my room." I laugh out while I pop in the movie she brought. She shrugs her shoulders and tosses some popcorn in the air. She catches it in her mouth and lays on my bed. "Purge Anarchy, you tryna scare me?" I lightly push her shoulder and sit next to her on the bed. "Please, if this scares you then we aren't associating with each other anymore." I go to turn off the lights and we move to the floor. Pillows, blankets and more pillows lay across the floor. We get comfortable and start the movie.
