Their house was so big. The outside was painted with fresh white paint surrounded by bushes and a largely grown oak tree. It smelled sweet, like rain and pine cones. Inside of their house we were met by a short hallway which led to the living room and the kitchen.
"Wow," I say amazed.
"Oh honey, let me take those right to your bedroom okay?" offered Mrs. Walker.
"Oh thank you," I smiled. She took the suitcase away from me along with my backpack and proceeded to go to my room.
I entered the living room and took a seat on the nice white fluffy couch. It felt incredible, unlike the hard and firm mattresses at the orphanage. "Hey darling would you like something to eat?" Mr. Walker asked.
He took a seat next to me. I nodded eagerly. I was excited to have my very first meal in real home. "Oh yes please."
He smiled at me and ran his hand through my hair. "Did you know that you're a very pretty little girl?"
I chuckled.
"Thank you daddy."
He smiled at me and put me on his lap. He hugged my body tightly and planted a kiss on my cheek. I could feel something pointy and hard poking me on my bottom.
"Is there something in your pocket?" I questioned with confusion. He shook his head no. "Why, do you feel something strange?"
I nodded my head.
He grinned at me, staring at me intently. "Well, I'll have your mother prepare you a little snack to eat okay love?"
I nodded as he placed me back onto the white fluffy couch and headed in the direction of Mrs. Walker.
I waited patiently for them to arrive and decided to take off my shoes. I crossed now legs and hands neatly together while admiring the living area.
A large deer head hung above the fireplace with many pictures of the couple.
I suddenly hear a large crashing sound coming from upstairs. "Shut up you, shut up!" I heard.
It sounded like mom and dad were arguing. I started to feel a little bit afraid and took a few deep breaths. Just then, Mrs. Walker came strolling in the living room.
"Hi baby," she smiled. "How about I fix you up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a cup of juice?"
"Yes please," I respond happily.
Clap.
I jumped up, scared and unaware of what was going on upstairs. "What is dad doing up there?" I queried.
"Oh nothing honey, he probably just saw a bug in there and wanted it gone."
But why would he tell a bug to shut up? Was my question.
Trusting her judgement I left the situation alone and allowed myself to relax into the couch. Mrs. Walker left to go to the kitchen and make my sandwich. I could faintly hear her talking to herself under her breath and laughing.
Curious, I walked down the hallway a little bit and pressed my ear up against the wall to hear what she was saying.
"Again all over again and again. But why?" Then she bursted out into a fit of laughter, dropping the knife on the floor.
"What's happening again mommy?" I asked, startling her.
"Oh nothing, mommy was just singing a little song to herself that's all. Go on now, sit on the couch until I'm finished with your food, okay?"
