Chapter One ♦ The Rise (Part.1)

"Ready?" A butcher raised a hand, his only hand, to be exact. His teeth and messy beard trotted up and down his face in amusement.

The people were frilly with excitement and some Vikings hollered in response. With the majority in a fractured state, some of them groaned from the suspense of the butcher's upcoming words. Many couldn't wait for the main event to begin; they were bubbling inside with their straightforward attitudes, ready to eliminate what lurked in the shadows.

The atmosphere was steamed up by the ones who were high-strung, some folks were yapping their days, and most were determined to execute the creatures that came out in the bright moonlight. They broke the crisp air and the tension with friendly laughs; they stretched all of their muscles to warm up on that frosty night.

The moon had risen to its highest peak, bringing a challenging quest to the people of Evansce. Nearly everyone's nerves were tingling from the cold weather, but they have all dressed accordingly for the snow. They were ready for the competition to begin, eyes, and ears aimed at the declarator for the event!

If one was a certified hunter without a kill on their hands, they'd have to brace themselves on this certain night and obtain their catch.

Evansce was a hunting ground, and no participants in this event should come out empty-handed if they wanted to get into a juicy feast. Each hunter must return with at least three or more of those flying reptiles, dead or alive to get admission into the monthly fest in the great hall.

The bright night had fallen quickly, and the dense foliage surrounded everyone in the wilderness, far away from the main village. Everyone felt unseen eyes from the shadows, the sensations more apparent to one being. Although many hunters sat near large fire pits and logs, they did cast wary glances together into the darkest shadows, the moon brightly penetrating through some areas.

Now many gritted their teeth in frustration, while others whined knowing that they'd need to seek the items they needed to seize. Many hunters narrowed their eyes when they saw their favorable weapons lying just ahead of them and in front of the butcher. Many folks had tricks up their sleeves that they could wield anytime for a headstart in the game.

To one specific being, that monthly night was ordinary. Christine only needed to raise a hand or flick her wrist to get the prey coming forth. Her ability would simply comply since her internal power was always ready to go; if she wanted, she'd let out that energy to assist her in that particular event.

Christine's eyes widened the slightest and her finger twitched after having glanced at an object lying on the snow-covered grounds. Can it be? A thin line curved on her lips, and she quickly realized that it was a crossbow that once belonged to her. Christine took a deep-calm breath before hissing—determined to fetch it back. There was more of that particular weapon, but her eyes kept returning to the one that was hers before. As she glimpsed that small area again, she also noticed that deep in the snow—crossbow arrows were sticking up and simply made a mental note to herself to drag as many darts as she could. The arrowheads she carved.

Christine touched the purple pendant on her necklace that she wore at all times. It had been a while since Christine last saw her mighty weapon that enticed her mood just by looking at it. Her crossbow had been missing for nearly three months, and if she didn't trust a specific individual involved in her group, her weapon wouldn't have left her very hands.

Warm breath suddenly brushed against her neck, and she closed her eyes, irritated at the fact that it was this person beside her one who lost her weapon. Since the nuisance wouldn't leave, Christine turned her head to face the young lady with a cold, stern glare—only to find the pair of bright-yellow eyes already looking at her. Christine shook her head, making the white-haired lady step away from her.
