Going to the fair is supposed to be fun, and for the most part it was. Skylar had been pulled along into this carnival trip by her best friend Alice. At first, she wanted to refuse so that she could dedicate the day to her beloved video games, but Alice had different plans. Using the blackmail, that only best friends can use without getting killed, she had managed to get Skylar out of the house.
So far, the two girls had ventured through a haunted house, rode an assortment of roller coasters, and went on a couple of spinning rides. Skylar was actually pretty happy that Alice had convinced her to come. She hadn't been able to spend as much time with her friend lately because Alice had been mostly hanging out with her new boyfriend, Oliver.
That shouldn't have bothered Skylar as much as it did. Alice and Oliver were a couple after all, so it was only natural for them to want to spend time with each other. But for some reason, Skylar couldn't get rid of that underlying feeling of jealousy. It felt like her best friend since kindergarten was being taken away from her. It felt like she was being replaced. She didn't want to cause any problems by bringing up her feelings to Alice, so she remained quiet and tried her best to shake it off. She knew that Alice would never replace her no matter how close she was to someone. So there was nothing to worry about! Right?
Skylar snapped out of her thoughts as a cone of fluffy cotton candy was shoved towards her face. "I brought cotton caaaaandy!" Alice sung as she took a bite out of her own cone. Skylar smiled in thanks and took the cotton candy. Halfway through their 'meal', their talking was interrupted by a loud text ringtone. Alice quickly dug through her jeans pocket and pulled out her phone. She gave out a squeal and started rapidly shaking Skylar's arm. Skylar was a little concerned for her friend, but asked anyway, "What's up?"
Alice looked up at her, eyes shining bright with happiness. "It's Oliver. He's coming to the fair with his sister, who's meeting up with her boyfriend here! We can hang out with Oliver!" Her bright smile fell a bit as she looked over towards Skylar's blank face. "That is, of course, if you're okay with that..." Skylar suddenly put on a realistic smile. "Of course it's okay! When is he getting here?" Alice's bright smile returned in full volume as she texted her boyfriend back. "He'll be here in around five minutes." Skylar 'playfully' rolled her eyes. "You're way too excited about this. It's not like you don't see him everyday or something." She muttered the last part under her breath. She knew she was being unreasonable, but during her time with her friend after so long, Oliver just had to come along and ruin it. Skylar mentally prepared herself for being a third wheel again.
Putting on her act, Skylar looked up with a cheerful smile. "That gives us just enough time to finish our cotton candy." Alice eagerly nodded as her bites became quicker. Soon, Skylar was the only one who had cotton candy and Alice was sitting there empty handed with a big smile on her face. "Do you think we can have one of those cliché moments on top of the ferris wheel where it'll stop and we'll kiss?" Alice looked up at Skylar hopefully. She genuinely smiled at her friend. "I'm sure that it will happen." Even if she was jealous, she just wanted her best friend to be happy.
A couple of minutes later, Alice and Skylar were waiting right next to the fair's entrance. Just as Skylar was going to turn to Alice and say something about how maybe Oliver couldn't make it, she was interrupted. "Alice! Skylar!" the brown haired boy waved enthusiastically as he ran over to them. Alice's smile was practically glowing as she greeted him back. "Hey Oliver!" Skylar tried not to wince as the couple in front of her hugged. "Hey you two! No PDA!" she smirked, recovered from her emotions. Alice stuck her tongue out as she pulled back.
Oliver grinned happily at the two. "So what are we going to do?" Skylar shrugged as Alice started jumping up and down. "I know! Let's go on that rollercoaster!" She turned around and pointed towards the one rollercoaster Skylar had been trying to avoid going on. Laughing nervously, Skylar shook her head and backed away slowly with her hands raised. "Oh heck no. You two can go on that all you want, but I am keeping my feet right here, attached to the ground." Alice turned towards her with a mischievous grin on her face. "Nope! You are coming. It's going to be fine. You went on all of the other roller coasters with no problem."
