Park Conversations

A month past since Josh had last seen Amelia. Josh had his fair share number of dates. He actually went on three. They were nice girls, they were smart, funny, they weren't terrible. They just weren't what he looking for. Josh doesn't even know what he is looking for. What Josh wants is to find love when he least expects it. Like they say, itll come when he least expects it. That is what he wants. But he tried looking and all three times failed. Maybe he should just let love find him, right?

The only girl he got along with was Amelia. He didn't even realize it till the first failed date. Even then he wouldn't date Amelia.

When Josh left work that Thursday he decided to go to the park. The same park that he met Amelia in. Maybe he'll see her, he just wants someone to talk to.

"Hey Joshy!"

"Hey." Josh smiles at Amelia, she smiles back. Not much has changed since they last saw each other.

"Why do you come here?" Josh asked Amelia.

"I like to wind down after work. Like chill out and relax." Josh frowned, why come here? Why not just go home. And was it really that bad?

"Work that bad?"

"No... Never bad."

"What do you even do?" Josh was really curios as to what is Amelia's job.

"I am a lawyer."

"What?" To say Josh looked surprised was an understatement. He didn't know what he expected but a lawyer wasn't it.

Amelia found this hilarious as she laughed. "Yeah, one of the best in the city."

"Really?"

"Why is it so shocking that I am a lawyer. What's so hard to believe?" Amelia looked offended. Was it really that hard to believe? Seriously?

"I don't know, I guess I didn't expect it."

"What, did you think I did as work?" Amelia was still offended. Josh knew he had to save his ass. He felt a little guilty but he had just assumed something different.

"Something fun I guess."

"Do you think being a lawyer isn't fun? Cause I may have a thing or two tell you mate."

"But you said you have come here to wind down. Why if it isn't bad or anything." Josh asked looking at Amelia.

"Mate, people fight everyday. Whether they're suing or getting a divorce. Lawyers are essentially the peace keepers. It's an office job but it's a fun office job. Everyday you get something new. It is funny to watch people fight over the most dumbest things sometimes. But the law was always interesting to me. So it wasn't hard to make the choice in college. I like helping people, but I also learned that I like defending people. I do love my job." Amelia explained and she looked at around and at Josh while talking. Josh nodded, he thought about it for like a second before quickly dismissing that thought. That was back when he was a freshman in college. It's been years since he last thought about lawyers.

Anyways Josh was shocked. Wow. Who would have thought. It makes sense now. Why Amelia was there asking for some documents. His office was in a big dispute a month ago with some other company. Something about copying that company. They won the case of course. Thanks to Amelia obviously.

"If you weren't a lawyer then what would you be?"

"A social worker, or a psychologist." Josh looked surprised. But should he really be all that surprised?

"Why that?" Amelia never ceases to amaze Josh.

"Like I said I like helping people." Amelia said it in a duh tone. Josh should've known it had something to do with helping people.

"That's nice. The world needs more people like you."

"Everyone starts out like that. Caring, loving, it's the world who screws people over. It's the world who makes people selfish. It's sad really." Amelia said, looking up at the sky. She looked at the sky with such a heartbreaking look on her face.

"Why sad?" Asked Josh, he was confused.

"Because everyone feels pain. Whether their significant other broke up with them or their family treats them terribly. Some way or another people get hurt. Repeatedly. I think that's what shapes us. It what we become. These experiences... But that's just life I guess. We have to learn how to stay positive through it all." Amelia said looking at Josh. It makes sense.

"Wow... that's, wow."

"Yeah, see you made get deep." Amelia accused, trying to lighten the mood.

"No, I guess that's kind of true."

"Everyone has different views about things. You have yours, I have mine. You don't have to agree. You can disagree. You can do whatever you want. You can also view things however you want." Amelia shrugged, Josh didn't have to agree with her.

"Yeah, but it kind of makes sense. Like I went on a few dates and I just... didn't click with any of them. I don't know. I feel like what they were missing something." Josh said, looking down at the floor.

"A bit rude you didn't give them another chance. But if you didn't click, you didn't click. And it happens. What were they missing then."

"I dont know." Josh shrugged, feeling down about his failed attempt at dating. It's hard getting back to it when you thought you were done with it all.

"How do you not know? How could they be missing something and you don't even know?" Amelia looked in horror. She shook her head, she was clearly judging Josh.

"Don't judge!" Josh playfully smacked her. He also glared at her but the amusement was clear in his eyes. How can this girl easily cheer him up?

"I will most certainly judge!" Josh laughed a small laugh. He looked up and was staring at nothing. Watching people in the distance living their lives.

"Maybe because they aren't my ex." Amelia rolled her eyes.

"No, I don't think its that." Amelia shook her head.

"No?" Josh asked looking at Amelia. He was curios as to what she thought.

"Did you find yourself comparing them to her?"

"No."

"See! I was right!" Amelia said, smacking Josh like he did to her earlier.

Josh rolled his eyes. He really did like these conversations with Amelia. Her phone rang right then. She looked at it and frowned at it. Everyone hates their jobs from time to time. Even if they love their job like Amelia. Everyone has their days.

"I have to go. It was nice seeing you Josh." Amelia smiled and walked off. She answered her phone as she walked away. Josh didn't even say goodbye.

"It was nice seeing you too." Josh said looking down at the ground. He said the words quietly, he got up and started making his way home. He thought about his conversation with Amelia the entire way home.
