I run home and yell out for Leah to get Szans so we can go. I grab some food and water and run into the woods with Leah despite her knowing what's going on. I run ahead and go off track. I take her and Szans to where we usually go for walks. Once we get there I hear the Oberst yell out that he knows where we are. Leah stops dead in her tracks as Szans lets out a bark and a growl. "No Szans" I whisper quietly. I give him a look to know to be quiet he does from here on. I grab Leah and run, with Szans at my heels, this is Leah's biggest fear. Once I think he's gone I slow down my pace. Suddenly Leah yells, my first thought is the Oberst but she just fell down a big hole. I go down the hole to help her out but instead I see a young guy point a gun to Leah's head. 'Are you Jewish" asks the young guy. I reply "no we are German." "No we are Jewish" yells Leah desperate for the gun to be released from her head. I asked Leah why she told him and all she did was point and there I see it, the Star of David.

There is two guys here, the one where we had the encounter with was Josef Auerbach he's parents and sister were killed and he's been living in this underground cottage for 3 years, he's 15 years old. The older one is Elijah Halevi. He's 18 years old and his parents were held captive and killed, he's been living here for 6 years. Elijah's actually really cute he is tall and muscly and he has a great personality, he's always positive regardless of a war going on. Elijah and Josef said we could stay here with Szans.

I go for a walk with Leah and Druga Szansa. I finally tell Leah why Ester didn't come. I tell her everything, I tell her it was my fault and that I'm responsible for her death. She assures me I'm not to blame. This time it has been the other way round. Leah is being the strong one, for me. When we got back Leah told Elijah and he gave me a big hug. It instantly made me feel better, we have a connection I could feel it.

Germany withdrew their troops today to protect their own cities from Russia. I feel relieved, I am safe but I am not forgiving them after all these deaths that have occurred because of them, this is unforgivable. At least now I am free, I do not need to live in hiding, and I am able to not live a lie.

Josef, Elijah, Leah and I have become very good friends in these recent days. After we are sure that all the Germans have left we leave our cottage all proudly wearing a Star of David on our arms. We go to find Josef's house. As we approach Josef's house I see why he missed this place; a two bedroom, white brick cottage with a porch, and beautiful trees. As I walk inside I see his sister's body. I tell Leah to take Josef out. Meanwhile Elijah and I wrap up his sister's body and place it outside; he started digging her grave while I scrubbed the blood away from the pine wood floor. We place his sister's body that we learn is Anne in the hole that Elijah dug. We bring Josef out the back for him to say his prayers to Anne. Leah makes a memorable plaque and Elijah puts the dirt over her body. We all grieve for our lost ones.

We're sitting in the corner of the room; my hand in his, Elijah is perfect. As he reaches in I wrap my hands around his neck and stare into his soft, baby blue eyes. I close my eyes slowy while his presence hugs me tight. The way he moved his hand up to my waist pulling me closer to his chest. I locked my hands around his neck intertwined with his soft brown hair. His breath brushing my top lip while I bite my bottom. I know this war is over but when I'm with him it's as if it never started.
