The Blood of the Faceless - An AOT Fanfic

Prologue

"Attention!" called out a tall man with an authoritative aura. "I am Commander Shadis, and from today, your life will become as simple as walking through a fire barefoot! So I don't want to hear any complaining! Understood!"

The cadets were all lined up, and Alex Indigo was one of them. She narrowed her eyes. She knew that from now on, no more friends, laughs, or unicorns. This was reality, and she would get eaten if she didn't realize it.

Commander Shadis made his way to a rather nervous-looking blonde boy. Alex recognized him as Armin.

"You, there! What's your name?" He bellowed.

More and more cadets were yelled at, including a short, bald boy who Alex didn't even bother to look at after seeing he saluted the wrong way. Finally it was her turn.

"And who might you be?" Commander Shadis glared down at Alex.

"Cadet Alex Indigo, reporting for duty, sir!" She saluted the best she could, her fist placed firmly near her heart.

"Where might you be coming from?"

"Shiganshina District, sir!"

"What's your motive, cadet?"

"I plan on ridding this world of Titans and claiming the outside land for humanity. The land outside the walls is our birthright, and it's going to take a lot more than a couple of naked man-eating giants to keep it from us!"

"Keep up that attitude, cadet, and you'll be Titan fodder in no time!"

As the commander left, Alex noticed several other cadets staring at her, especially a girl with a violet streak in her black hair and matching purple eyes.

The girl only averted her eyes when the Commander reached her. But before averting eyes, she flashed Alex a small smile, barely noticeable to the other cadets.

"You!" the Commander said in a broad voice. Ximena jumped a bit, then quickly regained her balance. She broadened her shoulders and stood straighter. "Name." he commanded.

"Ximena Davis, and yours sir?" she asked while saluting firmly, trying not to let a smile form on her lips.

"Were you not paying attention? I'm Commander S-"

She quickly cut him off, "No sir, your first name." She could tell the Commander was shocked by the way his bushy eyebrows were raised up.

"That's not important here Miss Davis..." he hissed at her bitterly. "I see you're bit of a joker..."

"Only to ease the pain sir, not just mine but yours too, I'm sure we're all hurting here."

Quickly changing the topic the commander replied, "Where are you from Davis?"

"Shiganshina District" as she said this, she glanced at Alex.

"Let me guess your motive, is it to have fun? Make friends? WELL THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU'RE HERE FOR CADET! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" he yelled, stressing each word, each syllable.'

Keeping her cool, Ximena nodded. "I get it."

Just as the Commander was about to move on to the next person, Ximena said, "Oh and sir, your fly's down...."

The Commander's face turned red as he looked down at his pants.

All the cadets erupted in laughter, except Alex.

Alex noticed the girl looking at her again, this time expectantly, so she chuckled politely. Honestly, she didn't understand how everyone else could laugh at a time like this.
