They smiled as they walked about the room, arms around waists.

Laughing lightly, chattering to their guests and joking about fun times.

Sherlock pulled his new husband to the side and, in a lowered voice, whispered, "John, my heart is failing."

Shock echoed around the Doctor's skull. No. Not now.
Not on their wedding day.

"Sherlock-"
The detective carried on calmly, "But I want everyone here to enjoy today. Including us."

He gave John a kiss and pulled him into an embrace.

John said nothing.

They danced and they drank, they laughed and they talked.

Time passed by and all was perfect.

When John and Sherlock disappeared into a small room, no one noticed.

But in that small room, Sherlock was dying.

He kissed John on the lips, slow and full.
He stroked John's hair and pushed it back from his face.
John hugged his detective tightly and listened to the man's heart.

"You are beautiful, John."
Sherlock was now blind.
He couldn't see his husband, but that didn't matter.

"I love you Sherlock."
John whispered close to his ear.
He couldn't hear the words clearly, but he still heard them.

"Catch me when I fall, John."
And he began to fall.

"Always"
John whispered as he lays Sherlock down gently.

Sherlock's eyes saw nothing, but looked right into John's.

"I love you, John."

"I love you too."

His breathing was laboured and heavy now.

He drew his last breath.

"God bless you."

Sherlock smiled at John.
His breathing stopped.
And so did his heart.

And John smiled too.

"I'll always love you."

When he walked back into the room alone, people stopped and hushed.

John took a deep breath and looked at everyone.

"Today, we celebrated the wedding of Sherlock and myself.
It was the best day of my life, and the best day of Sherlock's too.

"He wanted everyone to enjoy such a great time together, and loved to see all the smiles.
But no one knew that his heart was failing and that he was dying.

"We ignored his problems, and had fun today-"

A tear escaped John's eyes.

"And we loved every minute of it."

Other people had begun to cry now, but John carried on.

"So, when his time came, he died in my arms.
But he was happy."

John choked out a sob.

"He was happy that he married me.
He was happy that we gave him his one last wish-"

John let out another sob.

"His one last wish that you all, the people he cared about, would be happy before he died."

John's sobs ripped through him and his shoulders shook, but he let out a smile, for his husband.
