I look up, bright lights shine in my eyes almost blinding me. The sound of a cheering crowd rings loudly in my ears as I try to figure out exactly where I am. I look down at my hands and realize I'm holding a microphone and suddenly I know exactly what I need to do. I bring the microphone up to my face and as I take a breath to sing the first verse my alarm clock sounds.
I wake up "crap" I whisper to myself, angry that such a good dream was interrupted by reality. That was what I've worked toward my entire life and with little to no help, I'm surprised I've made it this far. I sit up and realize that today is the day all of my dreams could come true, today is the day I might actually be worth something, today is the day of The Ceremony. The Ceremony is a 2 part event that happens each month and involves the teens that turn 17 that month. The first part is the test which determines which sector you are best fit for and the second part is the choosing in which you choose your sector. You can either go with the test results or take a chance and go where you want to go. Each sector is a different type of art except 1 and there are 5 sectors: The Aggregate, The Orchestra, The Band, The Thespians, and The Choir. The only non art is the aggregate which consists of anyone unsuccessful in their chosen sector. The aggregate is in charge of architecture, law, retail, etc. making them equally as important as the other sectors. Getting ready for The Ceremony is the most stressful thing I have ever been through. I don't know whether I should dress up or be casual especially since I have no mom to help me and give me advice. Kids don't stay with their parents as there is a totally isolated place for children who have not been through The Ceremony. I go over to the tablet on a stand in my room and tap the smooth surface "how should I be dressing for The Ceremony?" I ask the tablet. "Casual clothing is recommended for the test but formal clothing is required for the choosing." A robotic voice replies so I go and take a shower passionately practicing my singing for the upcoming events today has in store.
