Chapter 5: Motions

Christmas break was the best time of the entire year for Laurel. It wasn't that she hated school, she longed to get back to a productive atmosphere and couldn't wait to be given something to learn, but simply that she couldn't stand to be around people any longer. The teens in her school were inherently lazy, even compared to most other teens. It was, therefore, quite a common thing for Laurel to be put in a group of four for a project and end up doing the whole thing alone. She detested the ease with which she could be manipulated by her peers, but unlike them she cared about her grades and would not allow herself to leave part of a project unfinished.
Most of the break was spent at home. Laurel read in her room while her brothers ran around outside when the weather was warm enough and played Xbox games together when it was not.
School was quick to return and it was not long before the memories of the Christmas spirit and family fun were replaced by the hustle and bustle of life. As the social stress combined with that of midterms it became increasingly difficult for anyone to pay attention. It was soon apparent that Laurel was simply going through the motions. It is for this reason that the next few chapters will be lacking in both detail and frequency. It is, after all, very hard to write about the life of a girl when she herself can remember almost nothing to tell you.
