14th of February, 1890

In the country of Cordenilia, a wife lay on her deathbed in a castle fit for a young King and a young Queen.

The King watched his wife with sad eyes. Watching her spend her last moments watching him was the most tragic thing a husband could ask for. A teardrop lightly fell from the corner of her eye, and he reached out to brush it away. It was when he stopped in his tracks, hearing slow footsteps.

He quickly turned around, seeing an old man, with his stick, slowly walking up to him. "Who are you?" He shouted, his voice echoing into the walls of the room and outside the walls of the room.

"Never mind who I am," the old man replied, almost whispered. "It is about your wife. You summoned me."

The King was utterly outraged. "I did nothing of the sort! Now go, before I summon the guards."

The old man had a crazy look in his eye, and the King didn't like it. "Now, now," the old man said, coming closer instead of going away like he demanded. "I know how to save your wife."

The poor King's face lit up and he turned to his wife, whose eyes were closed. "Do it!" The King ordered. "Save her. Save her, please!"

The old man, and slow at that, spoke softly. "But there is a pric-" the King shook his hand. "Tell me later. Save my wife," he said, looking over to his wife, who didn't look like she had any life left in her.

The old mage nodded. "As you wish." He tapped his wooden stick twice on the ground before pointing it at the Queen, who was in her bed.

She began to glow red. The King did not like the sight, so he closed his eyes.

"Is that..." The Queen muttered, her eyes wide open. "Honey!" The King said, rushing over to her, hugging her tightly, kissing from her head to her toe. Literally.

The Queen turned to the old man. "However can we repay you?" She asked him. The old man smiled. "All your children and all your citizens and all the generations to come in this country will have a burden. Including you. A curse. A terrible curse for each and every one of them. The curse will happen to the next generation. Meaning your kids. And them the next generation. And the next. And the next."

The old man gave a toothy grin. He gave the King an old piece of advice.

"Magic always comes with a price."

The kingdom of Cordenilia was then structed into four provinces, with six states in each. These states were structed to help people. Cordenilia was a very weird country.

And it was about to get weirder.

Now it's been a 100 years and the country has been suffering with curses for a decade. The King and Queen decided to have another Selection, yes! The 100th one (seeing as the other ones failed badly, seeing as the only people that were competing were guards and maids) so their children could be married and happy instead of alone and depressed. Who will be their lucky soulmate?
