Layken

Belfast, six years ago
I was sat on the bleacher with my headphone on blasting Friday I'm in Love whilst waiting for the match to start. It was my first time watching Liam played football, I never wanted to come but I had to since that was the last day for him to play football at school before he graduated. I didn't know if we would attend the same university and would able to watch him played again.

"Oi sist." Liam pulled my headphone off of my head and sat beside me. "So you're the reason of the smoky smirr o rain earlier?" He teased.

"Ah dinnae ken, liquid sunshine happens anywhere." I stopped the music and put the headphone inside my bag.

"So tell me how do you feel to finally sitting on this metal bleacher?" He clearly knew what I felt.

"Real people scared me." I said while looking around, the bleacher was already packed.

"I know, the idea of meeting new people terrifies you, let alone being in a crowd, but don't worry, you'll be fine." He smiled.

The players from both teams jogged entering the field. That moment woken up brain, realising that Liam was still beside me.

"Liam, shouldn't you be there?" I shockingly asked, I couldn't stop looking back and forth between him and the field.

"I'm a substitute today, I should be sitting down there with the other substitutes, but then I spot this weird girl who's wearing a Stormtrooper white hoodie and is sitting alone with her headphone on and hadn't at least once gazed to the field or look at the people around her for about twenty minutes straight." He laughed. "I figured you could use a company." He continued before he messed up my hair.

"Thank you. Guess I'm giving way too much clue?" I laughed, surprised by how easily he could spot me among the crowd. "Honestly I'm just a good observant. I think you've proven them wrong." He looked bothered and looked around behind the row. I wasn't sure what he was looking for at that time.

"Prove them what?" I took my tumbler out of my bag while waiting for his answer. I was so prepared for the match.

"That.... nerds don't like football is a myth." We both laughed and he looked less bothered then.

The match had finally started.

"So how come you become a substitute? I thought I could finally watch you running after the ball at the real field?" I wasn't sure if he paid enough attention to my question.

"There, that player with number 7, can you see?" He pointed to a player at the field. "He just got transferred here a month ago, and this is his first match. The guy is the wind of the field."

I looked at him, confused not sure what he meant by that. "But he's still new." I reasoned.

He looked at me for a moment before paid his attention back to the match. "Coach wanted to see him play, and like I said, he's the wind of the field. Means you could feel him around you somewhere when you dribble the ball, but you couldn't really see him until he took your ball then you'd realise. Had a match with his previous team before."

It was half time, the sore was 2-1, Liam's team was leading the match. Liam had gone to the toilet since ten minutes ago, so I used that time to check on my phone only to find zero notification.

The break had finally over. Each players had  started entering the field and Liam hadn't come back yet. I had text him twice. It was then five minutes during the match when he came. He moved my bag away from his spot before he sat. "Sorry sist, I had a quick briefing with the team back there and was on the toilet queue. How's the match?" I was less worried because his reasons for gone so long were logic enough, I felt relived.
