Everyone is rushing. Trying to get to class before the hall monitor comes. There is only ten minutes before first class. I turn to see Chloe at her locker. The bags and dark rings around her eyes indicate that she was up late last night. "Maybe she was finishing off her History project (which was due this morning) "I say to myself. But Chloe never leaves projects to the last minute.
"Hey, why didn't you answer my calls last night?"
"Oh, sorry. My phone must have been off" she hesitates. "C'mon, lets just go to class." As we're walking to class, only one question is replaying in my head.
"Is everything alright?" I blurted out.
"Y-yeah, don't worry about it" Chloe says as she cuts me off.
Chloe seems strange. She's acting very weird. Every single class we've had she's been very quiet especially in Math class which is her favourite. She usually always has her hand up and is always correcting the teacher but today, she wasn't herself.
The final bell rings and everyone is running out of the building like ants, to get home ready for the weekend. I see Chloe ahead of me struggling to get out of the doorway. I push through the traffic leaving angry students behind me. By the time I get to her, she's outside waiting for her ride.
"Hey Chlo, do you wanna come over to my house this afternoon. You can sleep over and we can take you to your netball game tomorrow," I offer. She ignores me. "Chlo? Chloe! Don't ignore me" I raise my voice as I grab her arm.
"Sorry. Um, I can't. I'm busy tonight."
"Okay. Well I'm still coming to your game" I reassure as she replies with a gentle smile, but before I can say anything else, her mum pulls up in front of the school.
"Sorry, I've got to go". She runs to the car and before I know it, she's gone. I start walking home, but the entire time memories from today keep flashing in my head. Chloe being so quiet in class that no one realised she's there, ignoring me as if she was trying to block what I was saying, out. Another thought that I have is that I'm spending the night alone, which will consist of trying to reach Chloe. Again.
