My heart sank. The reply was nothing like I expected. But it was my mistake. I asked her in the group. She would obviously refuse. And the group was meant for jokes, maybe she was joking. I decided to try again the next day in private.
It was morning D Hall the next day.
"Hey Bhavya have made a couple with anyone yet?" Devyanshi asked her.
"No. I am planning to go alone."
"A boy was asking to go with you."
"Who?"
"That NRI."
"Aee Bhavya will go with NRI." Divya said mocking.
Bhavya didn't really replied at this just her face went red as usual.
I was feeling insecure. What if she go with him?
That thought was enough to terrify me.
"No I won't go with him." Bhavya said.
I took a relaxing breath.
"By the who are you going with Devyanshi?" Divya asked. At this Bhavya gave a laugh, and that was enough to tell that she knew about Sahil.
"I am going with Mr. S" she replied.
"Saksham?" I asked. Saksham was also my batch mate from Aakash institute and the favourite target of my pranks. Who now had become the most irritating person of the class.
"No way." she gave a pause.
"Sahil." Bhavya completed and went into a series of laughter with Devyanshi starring at her with angry eyes but a constant smile too.
"Sahil?" asked Divya. "What have you seen in him? Even Garvit looks better than him."
I gave a confused look.
"Shut up!" barked Devyanshi. "Don't say anything about my Sahil."
"Ainn... Your Sahil." Dikshit mocked.
I didn't get a chance to ask Bhavya during the D Hall or even after it.
On the way to the lecture theatre I met Kunal.
"Morning." I wished.
"Have you asked anyone for the party?" he asked.
"Not yet. What about you?"
"With whom Bhavya is going?"
"Alone."
"Then I'll go with her."
That came as a shock to me. I felt like someone is trying to snatch my dreams from me.
"No. You can't."
"But why?"
"Because I was planning to go with her."
"You go with someone else. I'll go with her."
He said and went to Sahil and Devyanshi who were standing outside the Lecture Theatre.
Aditya was absent that day too. I went and sat with Dikshit in the third row.
It was physiology lecture on the limbic system.
The most interesting topic by the most boring professor of the department. Dr. Meena was a very professor and the to be head of the department. But her voice was such low that was not even audible to first row even on the mic.
"Have you asked Bhavya about the party?" Dikshit asked me.
"Not yet."
"Then be fast otherwise someone else will ask her."
"I will ask her as soon as I get a chance."
"You keep waiting for the chance and someone else will take her."
I didn't wanted to argue with him.
I tried to message her. But there was no signal.
After the class I quickly went to my room and typed a message.
"Will you go to the freshers with me?" and sent it to Bhavya.
She wasn't online at that time. So, I kept my phone on the table and went to washroom.
When I came back my phone showed a new message from Bhavya.
I quickly opened the message and started reading it.
Lol. Are you mad? My laughter is not stopping.
And by the way I am going alone.
I switched the mobile data off, picked up the BDC Abdomen Anatomy textbook. What else could I do? I was in no mood to go to the party now. There was an abdomen substage just two days after the party. So, I thought it would be best to study. But I couldn't just concentrate.
Those three lines were appearing in front of my face again and again.
I opened my phone to delete the conversation so I could concentrate. By mistake I switched on the mobile data. My phone rang again. This time it was a message on group from Devyanshi.
She had made a collage of me and Aditya with a title Love Birds.
At this I felt so much angry that I left the group and then deleted the conversation with Bhavya.
I laid down silently in the bed in deep thoughts.
'She rejected me. Now what would I do in the party. I better stay here only.'
Just then the door of the room opened. It was Dikshit.
"What are you doing? Weren't we supposed to go shopping for tomorrow?" he asked.
"I am not going to the party." I replied.
"Why? What happened? Have you asked Bhavya?"
"Yup."
"And she said no?"
I did not replied.
“Answer me”
“I am not going to the party.”
"Are you mad? You are not going to the party just because of a girl?"
"The girl who matter to me the most."
"And What would you say to your parents? Why didn't you attended the party? What you did with the money they sent for the party wear?"
Dikshit had a point. I can't lie to my parents.
"Okay I would go shopping but about attending the party I would think later."
Actually there was still a ray of hope in me. Bhavya was going alone. Maybe she ask me to accompany her on the spot.
