Meridas Ruin

What is the proper price to pay

for the rites of Meridas?

Don’t count the cats who died today

for a throne that never was.

A thousand lives is little cost

for tides that made a mighty flood.

A city born, and then was lost,

when we turned the sea to blood.

The towers rose from ocean graves

with roaring cracks of thunder,

then fell again beneath the waves

and tore the land asunder.
