*****************"Maybe...you'll fall in love with me all over again."
"Hell," I said, "I love you enough now. What do you want to do? Ruin me?"
"Yes. I want to ruin you."
"Good," I said. "That's what I want too."
― Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to ArmsDaisy picked up Casper's hands and gently applied a wet cloth to his knuckles. He winced slightly gently tugging his hand away from the cloth. Daisy held on to his hands not letting him pull away, she had become accustomed to Casper's attempts to flee her grip when she would try and heal him. Daisy chose not to look at Casper as she continued her task, but Casper never took his eyes off her. He watches her small delicate finger grasp the towel as she gently wipes the blood off his knuckles, her wavy long brunette locks sliding off her shoulders and cascading towards the front of her T-shirt as she shifted forward a bit to get a better look at his wounds. Casper always tried to dodge her questions and try to pull away when she tried to clean his wounds, but he would still climb into her room, and she would always wait for him; it was a daily occurrence.
The first time Casper climbed into her room was during the middle of the night completely battered and bruised. She panicked and bombarding him with questions. He answered none of them and just kept quiet staring at her beautiful form. He had blocked her out focusing on her radiance and warmth and the minute details of her features as if it would be the last time he would ever see her, but Daisy persisted. Casper swam in his daze as she continued trying to capture his attention. Daisy had known what he was doing. He was intentionally blocking her out with his fantasies of their future together. It was strange, but it was also very intriguing as Daisy loved hearing that Casper wanted to stay with her forever. Daisy wanted to be with him as much as he wanted to be with her, so she would listen to his dreams forgetting about her questions or worries, but that was not going to work anymore because the situation had become too dire.
She pushed with her frustration and worry trying to coax the truth out of Casper, but Casper was determined to protect her the only way he knew how; he snapped out of his daze and attempted to leave right through his entrance. He told her that if she kept asking him questions that he would leave and never come back, and that if he does go back out she may also never see him alive again.
Panic had surged through Daisy's veins as his words wreaked havoc in every corner of her mind. Was Casper threatening suicide? Why is he saying these things? Daisy thought. Questions after questions plagued her, but she buried her questions deep within her heart. Casper was the only one left in her life that she loved with all her being, especially after her parents died, and she was left to an aunt who just didn't care. After everything losing Casper would torture her already broken soul. Casper watched as her body shook with fear and pain. He was so angry with himself, Casper knew what had happened to Daisy and he was opening old wounds. He wanted to throw himself at her feet and beg for her forgiveness.
Casper's feelings for Daisy were strange. They were akin to obsession and idolization. He wanted to shackle her to the pedestal where he would be her knight. He wanted to be the only one to keep her safe, the only one to give her whatever she wanted, the only one to let her reign on his being, and the only one to take whatever punishment from her after hurting her so deeply. Casper cracked under the sadness of her eyes and attempted to hug her. She shrugged him away slightly and left the room. He accepted her cold shoulders and embraced the pain, as he knew that this was nothing compared to how much pain he had caused her. She had shuffled back into the room with the first aid kit and started to clean his injuries. Casper was taken aback by her decision and tried to pull away. He didn't deserve her kindness, but one pleading glare from his queen, he relented. He would do anything she said except tell her the reason for her true worries, and fighting the urge was hard, but he couldn't stop the rush he felt from punching his opponent and imaging them as Daisie's enemies and people who would harm her. He fought to gain enough strength deluded by the strong urge to protect her from any and every harm. That goal was reached but Casper could not pull away from his fate. After all his Daisies life was being threatened by the same people that said that they would give him enough strength to reach his goals. He was trapped, but
Casper's only plan was to keep Daisy safe even if it meant complying to his fate. From that day forward in exchange for not asking questions Daisy would do her best to heal any injury physical or mental.
