A WEEK HAD PASSED SINCE HARRIET AND MATTY LAST SPOKE time in wimslow seemed to move slowly as the september sun slowly started to drift into winter, time for harriet seemed to the same her mornings at school slowly drifted on into lunch where she found herself stood in the middle of the canteen debating on where to sit."harriet!"
turning quickly she saw jessica waving her over smiling and she walked over sitting opposite her just as matty & george sat at the table behind them causing harriet to look to them,
when matty saw harriet sitting with jessica he pulled a face looking away from her while george winked at her making her blush.
"who are you blushing at?" jessica asked before turning around rolling her eyes at the two boys facing her again.
"oh just...." she began before jessica cut her off.
"matthew healy and george daniel, they're so annoying." she said before laughing loudly "you could do so much better than them."
"we'll i've actually known them since i was a toddler, we used to hang out a lot till i moved away." harriet told jessica who just nodded slowly before looking at her puzzled.
"so like you grew up here...how comes you left?" jessica questioned and harriet shrugged.
"well my parents split up super messy and when my mu..." she began to reply feeling as though she was rambling but stopped when she realised jessica wasn't listening "never mind."
all jessica did was pretend to listen as her two friend sat down next to her beginning to talk making harriet sigh watching them.
—
"so you're sitting with jessica." matty said in a mocking tone as harriet sat next to him in science "do you guys have super fun awesome conversations?"
"yeah super awesome conversations." harriet replied and he laughed.
"you need better company." he told her leaning against the table and harriet rolled her eyes.
"better company like you and your friends?" she questioned raising an eyebrow.
he went to speak but was interrupted by george sitting down on their table infront of him.
"you guys talking about how handsome i am?" george asked jokingly making matty sit yo shaking his head.
"course we are." harriet replied making george ruffle her hair smiling.
george looked behind them to see jessica was shooting them daggers and he nudged matty who looked, he smiled at jessica waving before blowing her a kiss making her roll her eyes at him looking away to go back to talking to her friends.
"harriet are you seriously eating lunch with that?" george asked looking back to his friend.
"well yeah..." she said looking between him and matty "i don't know why you're acting so surprised, you two didn't ask me to sit with you."
george went to speak but matty interrupted him.
"get over it." matty said to harriet making george stare at him shocked "you left and we moved on."
not saying anything harriet got up leaving their table to go over to jessica and her friends.
"what the fuck was that?" george asked matty.
"the truth." was all he answered.
—
the next period harriet found herself sat in history waiting for the class to start when she felt someone sat next to her.
"you're new here, aren't you?"
looking next to her she saw a guy with a bleached blonde buzzcut and she smiled.
"yeah i am." she replied "i'm harriet."
"dylan." the guy replied smiling back at her "you sit with jessica and her friends at lunch, don't you?"
"you ask a lot of questions." harriet told him and he laugh "but yes i do."
"bad company." dylan said making harriet pull a face.
harriet went to speak but stopped as their teacher began talking yet she couldn't get the comment dylan had made out of her head.
"what do you mean by bad company?" harriet questioned in a whisper making dylan look at her smiling as he leaned his head in hand.
"they're just not the kind of people you hang around with in the long run." dylan answered still smiling.
—
as the day ended harriet found herself at her locker putting her books away when a girl laughing caught her attention, peering around she watched as a girl leaned against a locker a few rows down twirling her hair around her finger while a boy flirted with her.
but it wasn't just any boy, it was matty. when he saw harriet watching he smiled continuing to talk to this girl.
"so did you really tell him you regretted everything?"
jumping at the sound of the voice next to her harriet looked to see george leaving against a the locker next to hers.
"he told you?" she asked watching as george nodded and hummed as a response.
"been acting weird since you came back so had to force it out of him." george replied with a shrug "i'm not surprised you two...ya know? just surprised that you said you regretted it and in turn he said it back."
"i didn't mean to say it, he implied i did and then said he did so i settled with saying i did." harriet told george shutting her locker "and he believed it."
george looked her in the eye nodding before linking her arm with his.
"you okay though?" he asked her beginning to walk and harriet fall in step with him.
"i mean i guess." she answered shrugging "truthfully i've been better and i'm still trying to settle into being back."
"i get that." george told her looking down at her with a smile "god i missed you."
hearing this made harriet smile, a real smile for once, giving georges arm a squeeze.
"i missed you too." she said to him still
smiling."look tomorrow we can hang out for sure, okay?" george suggested making harriet nod "matty and i just have somewhere to be but i promise tomorrow!!"
george gave harriet a quick kiss on the cheek before running over to matty grabbing him, the blonde girl watched before sighing and shutting her locker beginning to head home wondering if her friendship with the boys will ever go back to how it was.
