"Why are you staring at me?"

I rolled my eyes, sitting upright. Piper snarled as she scooted towards me, a knowing look smeared across her tanned face. I don't think she was mad at me, when Piper's mad she has a very distinct look; she scrunches up her round nose and furrows her sparse blonde eyebrows. She wasn't doing any of that. She did look very smug but knowing Piper, it was intentional.

"Didn't your mothers teach you that staring is rude? I mean, you should have had double the etiquette training"

"Oh haha, Harps you're so funny. You know, I consider that pretty homophobic"

She cut her eyes at me, holding back a grim smile. I pushed myself further into the back of the torn leather sofa, clutching a bucket of dry popcorn in my arms. Piper always refused to let me add butter because she claimed it 'tastes like diabetes'.

"How's Bensen?"

I began chewing the inside of my raw cheek. She knew. She had known all along and why was I acting so surprised? This was the Piper Adams, the world famous criminal mastermind. Of course she would of found out about Bensen. Probably before I even had.

"You know, as good as gone, why'd you ask?"

I replied in a sultry tone. Maybe if I played my cards right she wouldn't point out the fact that she had known about him all along.

"No specific reason. You haven spoken to him in a long time, oh and that reminds me, how's his little mistress? What was her name again?"

I heard her wheezily chuckle at the end. I took a deep breath before tossing a handful of popcorn into my mouth, buying myself time to think of a reply. Piper kicked her feet up onto the varnished coffee table, wiggling her toes in time with the advert playing on the TV.

"Why haven't you plotted revenge yet, Harps? It would be so easy. Bensen wouldn't know what-"

"Can we stop talking about this"

I yelled, slamming the bucket onto the table. Pieces of stray kernel rolled onto the rug, blending in with the creamy yellow colour. Piper gulped, utterly stunned. We had never gotten into a real argument before, especially not over some guy. There was a painfully long silence before she got up and switched off the TV.

"Arby called earlier, we have a new customer. But.. he said that he needs to see us first"

She murmured, not making eye contact. I tensed my shoulders, letting her words sink in. We hadn't heard from Arby in three weeks, especially after the incident at headquarters, and now all of a sudden he had a new customer for us?

"Arby doesn't like to be kept waiting. Let's go"
