I pant as I sprint across the football field, I call to my team mate Ellie. The guys chant me on as she passes the ball to me, the cheerleaders yelling for me to score, screaming the school anthem. I expertly dribbled the ball to the other side of the pitch, my attackers are gaining on me. I kick the ball with every muscle in my leg. The ball hits the back of the net, just as the whistle blows for the end of the game.
I run over to join my team mates. "OMG ALI! That was epic!! Guys, you know what this means....
WE WON THE SEASON!!!" Kayla screamed as we all start jumping up and down in our group hug. But then the realization hit all of us. Claire looked at me mournfully,
"That was the last game of the season. And.. That means, we're losing you!!" She cried, years streaming down her Cheeks.
Helen, Claire and Kayla have been my besties since day one! Literally! Since the start of reception class!
We walk off to the sidelines, making our way to the girls changing rooms. We all congratulate each other on our achievement, packing our stuff into our gym bags. The speakers blare into the room, startling is.
"Can all the girls please make their way to the main football pitch, thank you." Obeying the command, we bring ourselves to the main pitch, the crowd applauding us.
I must've switched off, until I heard my name.
"Unfortunately, our football captain is going to be leaving us. Do we'd like to take this opportunity to thank, Alison Swift for her amazing efforts. Not only on the football team (as captain) but on the hockey, netball, basketball, swimming, dance and riding teams too. Westbrooke academy have never seen such an incredible sports woman, such as herself. We'd like to present you with a good-bye present from the sports department." The headmaster, Mr Gray, turned around and indicated for me to join him. I stepped forward and shook his hand, smiling at the photographer as she took our photo. He handed me a trophy, with the message:
Our very own, Alison Swift. For being outstanding in the school and sports department, here at Westbrooke academy.Engraved on the bottom. He handed me a sealed envelope and a bouquet of red roses. He leaned in to hug me, tears spilling down my face.
"You've been an incredible privilege to this school, both academically, socially, physically and mentally. Well done! I can tell you'll get far in life, I wish you luck and farewell after all these years." He said to me warmly.
I looked up at him, my heart broken,
"Thank you, sir." I murmer, he smiles.
"We'll be sad to see you go." He pats me on the back.
"Well done girls!" He shouts, as we exit we are applauded graciously. The girls depart, eager to get home for the summer. Me and my best friends hang back.
"I'm gonna miss you Ali." Said Claire, tears streaming down her cheeks as get voice wavers. She gives me a little gift back.
We sit on the benches. I open the bag, inside, there is a tiny little satin box. I open it. Inside there is a silver necklace from Pandora. I gasp, looking down at the locket, I open it up there is a photo of all of us smiling. I cry, hugging her.
"Thanks Claire, you don't know how much I love it!" I tell her.
Kayla hands me a gift bag of her own, I open it, revealing a small customized cushion. On the back are tiny little rabbits, on the front is a picture of all of us on my sixteenth birthday.
"Thanks Kay!! It's fab! I say, embracing her.
Helen gave me her own gift bag. I open it up, revealing a gorgeous purse, vintage France style.
"Open it! Open it!" She squeals. I open the purse, there are two photo pouches, in one is a picture of all of us on the beach, laughing in the hot sun. The other is of me and my family, on a picnic. They're ALL such thoughtful gifts! I LOVE them! I explore the little pouches in the purse, inside the coin compartment, there is a bunch of gift cards to spend in: lush, WHSmiths, New Look, Primark, Superdrug, the Body Shop and TKMax.
"Hels! Thanks! I'm speechless!" I gasp.
Behind them, they pull a turquoise A4, landscape book. I open it. The book is packed with memories we've spent together. Tickets to the roller disco, train tickets to London, photos of us on the beach, at the shopping mall, at concerts, me and my ex-boyfriend Jace. I burst into tears, pulling them all into a hug. I handed them a gift bag each. They all included the same:
4 lush bath bombs, a £10 gift card to Claire's accessories, a scarf and a little A5 book with memories and pictures. They open the gift bag, revealing what I got them. We ask embraced, hugging and crying. Bagging our things up, we made our way out of the school grounds. On the corner of my house, I turn to look at them.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye then. I just want you to know, that I'm NEVER gonna forget ANY of you. And I will ALWAYS remember and treasure the memories and hours we spent together (good and bad) I'm gonna miss you guys so FRICKING much! But I do have a phone and WiFi. So call and group chat! And you MUST visit me in London! I exclaim." We hug, exchanging good-byes and hugging and crying. I jump into the car and wave, we are moving. I am leaving my childhood here in Edinburgh, back to where I was born. London.____________________________________________________________
