Ship Fanfics, Part 4

..."Hiii-yaah!" Macy cried as she kicked down a simulation monster. "Take that...and that!" she started beating him with her power mace.

I was half-heartedly swinging my sword at a similar monster, watching Macy's ponytail sway back and forth. It was unlike me to not be absorbed by my training, and the others noticed it too.

"Heyy, Claydough," Aaron swooped past me on his hovershield. "Are you feeling ok, man? You're not as into training as usual."

"I think he's finally seeing sense," Lance piped up from a few feet away, sipping a soda. "We don't need to train this often. Jestro doesn't show up, itching for a fight everyday, does he? And what if he does? We'd be so exhausted from training that we wouldn't be able to fight him..."

"Lance, when has that ever happened?" I said, still not able to tear my eyes away from Macy. She may say she's not a bit like a princess, but she sure is as beautiful as one. "And yeah, Aaron, I'm fine. Don't worry...."

"Hey, Clay," Macy called to me, making me drop my sword. "How was that?"

I cleared my throat and replied, "Nice energy, Macy. That will be very useful in a real fight."

I thought I saw Aaron and Lance trade glances. What were they thinking about? Hmm...

I gave my hair one final brush, and took a deep breath, clutching the flowers tight in my hand. I was going to ask her out. Tonight. I'd waited long enough.
Ever since that first day at the Knights Academy, I'd liked Princess Macy. Not because she was a princess. No, to me, that doesn't make a difference. I liked her because of her drive and determination, and her passion to become a knight matched mine.

And, yeah, she's pretty, too.

I stepped outside to see Macy hauling some suitcases out of her room.

"Macy? What's going on?" I asked.

Macy turned to me with, I was surprised to see, tears in her eyes.

"My dad says I can't be a Knight anymore," she choked.

I dropped the flowers. "W-what?"

"I'm sorry, Clay, I have to go." Macy grabbed her suitcase handles. "I'll...I'll miss you." She couldn't have left the room faster. I guess she hated goodbyes....

I was frozen with shock. I tried to hold back my tears as I ran out to say goodbye. I didn't get a chance to ask her out after all these years....

Suddenly, I heard screams. Startled, I looked up and saw....

Jestro's monsters attacking the royal carriage! Burnzie had stepped in front of it to stop it, and Sparks was pounding it with his fists.

I raced back into the Fortrex and grabbed my sword and shield. They weren't going to hurt my Macy!

I ran to the carriage as fast as I could, and did a flying leap onto Sparks' shoulder and jabbed my sword into his eye.

"Stay away from Macy!" I yelled, now whacking him repeatedly with my shield. "And her family!"

It was a job and a half trying to defeat them all on my own. I didn't see Jestro anywhere. I guess he didn't plan this....he may be corrupted by the Book of Evil, but he's not actually entirely bad. Its mostly the Book of Monsters' doing.

Eventually, after a lot of whacking, slicing and dicing, the monsters retreated. I turned around, utterly exhausted, to face the Royal Family.

"At... your...service...your majesties,"  I panted.

"Oh, Clay!" Macy jumped down from the carriage. She threw her arms around me. "I wish I'd had my mace and shield! I could have helped you defeat them. But thank you anyway."

"Yes, Clay, thank you very much," King Halbert spoke up. "You will be thanked properly. Come to the palace tonight, where we will host a ceremony in your honour!"

"And...?" Queen Halbert nudged him.

"And.... alright.... Macy, you can become a Knight again. That way, if we're ever under attack as a family, you can protect us. If it wasn't for Clay here, we'd still be in big trouble!"

Macy ran to hug her father. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Dad!"

"Yes, thank you very much, your Highness," I said, a grin spreading across my face.

Macy ran to me and hugged me again. She whispered in my ear, "I've always liked you, you know, but I just wanted some proof that you were the right guy." She turned to check if her parents were watching, then she kissed me, long and hard. "Today, you have shown me you are."

I finally found my nerve. "Macy.... will you be my..... girlfriend?"

"Yes, of course!" she smiled at me.

And I beamed back at her, as my happiness swelled to a maximum.

Everything was right in the world.
